Hi I was diagnosed with breast. I’ve had my operation and my treatment. I now take Letrozole. Why do I feel like I’m unable to do things now. I have to rest after the smallest of jobs. I constantly am thinking about cancer. This then gets me down and I don’t want to do anything. Emotionally I struggle and have been unable to return to work yet. I know I should stay positive but I really can’t understand why me and what’s my future.
I'm sorry for the negative post.
Hi Snoopy61
We,come to the forum and sorry to hear hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer. No need to apologise about your post, it’s perfectly understandable that you are feeling low after what you have been through. While undergoing treatment you are going from one appointment to the other and that suddenly stops once treatment is finished. It’s a lot to process. I know that it can be hard but try not to beat yourself up about how you are feeling.
Have you thought about counselling? I was struggling recently with the aftermath of my treatment for triple negative breast cancer, so I decided to get counselling at my local Cancer Center and already I’m finding it a help. If that it something you would like to do you can contact the Macmillan helpline on 0808 808 00 00 and they’ll be able to organise some counselling for you free of charge. Also if you live near a Maggie’s center you can call them and get support from them as well.
I hope you have found some help here and remember you’re not alone in how you are feeling.
Wishing you the best of luck for the future.
Best wishes

Hi, I’m sorry you feel like this, but it’s incredibly common. The rug was pulled from under your feet, and you went into survival / coping mode (we are all different with that one). You are probably still in shock, and now the reality of it all is hitting home. I went for specialist counselling given free by a local cancer charity. She was excellent and helped to pull me back from the depths. Although it’s true (for me) that some things will never be the same as they were before, several things have changed for the better … in a way. You don’t have to be positive all of the time … we are human and we have emotions. Try not to expect too much too soon. But do talk to someone if you can. My counsellor says that there are some thoughts and worries that we all seem to experience in very similar ways. I hope this helps a little xx
Hi
There are a couple of organisations that organise courses and support after cancer.
They might not be for you but it’s worth having a look at what they offer
Lots of people feel the same way you do.You have been through a trauma so be kind to yourself.
Take care x

Hi Snoopy61, lovely messages and suggestions already from the fine folk here, just wanted to add my support and a hug. Remember too that although you’ve finished ‘active’ treatment, you’re still receiving hormone treatment (as am I - Anastrozole) and it has its nasty effects as well as its benefits. I’m convinced that it contributes to my anxiety and definitely causes fatigue. I think there’s an assumption by some (who haven’t had cancer) that we’ll bounce back and celebrate once main treatments are finished. A dear friend suggested that our group should have a girls night out after my radiotherapy, but I had to tactfully explain that I had never felt less like celebrating! She meant well but just didn’t get it.
I hope you can access some counselling/ support as has been suggested. In the meantime you’re not alone and we are all here for you. Love and hugs, HFxx
Just to add, I find this article very helpful and return to it from time to time. You may have seen it already but in case you haven’t….
