Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer last year, I had surgery to remove the tumors and a further surgery to strip the lymph glands under one arm as it had spread. I had radiotherapy and was put onto Letrozole. I'm having side effects from the treatment and I try to ignore them as much as possible, upset stomach, fatigue which has been helped by taking a vitamin D supplement. I have carpal tunnel in one hand which can be painful, but I have stitch like pain in my calf muscles and now the feeling in my feet of walking on a scrunched up sock. Is there anyone out there who experiences this and if so is there anything that can be done to stop it ?
Hi Kez
I had a lumpectomy last August but have been on Letrozole since last June. The consultant told me that the side effects were painful hands and arms and he wasn't joking either!.My problem is that I have carpal tunnel, psoriatic arthritis, osteo and fibromyalgia so the pain in my hands could be a mixture o the Letrozole and the other three things I am being treated for.Right now my hands are so very painful and I get a burning feeling too. I was told that there are other tablets that can help, so not to suffer the effects of the Letrozole, so it might be worth asking your consultant for a change of medication. Best of luck..
I don't know about letrozole, but the stitch-like calf and foot pain could be muscle cramping, which is sometimes caused by low potassium or sodium. Try eating a banana a day and perhaps getting some electrolytes along with plenty of water - you can do this by 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 2 (to taste) teaspoons of sugar to a large glass of water.
Hi Radge, I have a lot of leg cramps, from the knees down and it does worry me sometimes but then I have a lot of problems with joints and muscle wastage, also restless legs. For the restless I take Pramipexole and it has been a game changer. Before taking these tablets my legs just would not stay still and during the night was just a nightmare every single night. I have been eating my feelings for the past eight weeks after losing my lovely mum to cancer but my family are at me to cut out the rubbish and start to eat properly again, and I know they are right!xx
Hi Kez, I’m on anastrozole and am feeling almost the exact same things -especially the calf muscle and the ‘scrunched up sock’ (great description) feeling in my left foot. I have told my GP (my oncologist isn’t esp helpful) and unfortunately he just kind of said, “yeah, it’s probably anastrozole, maybe it’ll get better”. Also had a low vitamin D (39), so on supplements now too.
Good luck and best wishes
