Hello. I am newly diagnosed and am drowning in fear. I am so scared. I'm off to Oncology this morning to discuss starting chemo. Following this I will have a double mastectomy. I can't get my head around it and am so scared for the future. Any advice will be welcome as I'm not taking it all in at the minute x

  • Hi Honeybee21

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  It's understandable that you are scared for the future, but once you have your treatment plan in place things should start to improve for you.   My advice would be to  take things one day at a time and keep yourself busy by doing the things that you love to do.  Would you consider counselling?  I had counselling during my treatment and I found that it helped me.  If that is something you would like to do, if you ring the Macmillan helpline on 0808 808 00 00 they will be able to arrange free counselling for you for about six weeks.

While everyone's journey is different, my cancer was found early and after having had chemo, surgery and radiotherapy I am now cancer free and have been for over a year.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment if you haven't had it yet.

    Best wishes

  • hi

I’m new on here too and everyone is so helpful. I think Daisy is correct just one day at a time . I’m just about to start chemo fior second time and been told prognosis not good as this time it has spread from bowel to peritoneum  but you have to just keep believing and stay strong as it helps that immune system .  It is scary.  Counselling is good and I’ve just had a session of hypnotherapy to help me stay positive.  I felt so much better after my first session.  Starting chemo next week and just praying side effects are no so bad this time .  Good to hear Daisy you have been in remission for year and hope that it stays that way for you .Shows cancer doesn’t always get its way .  Good luck Honeybee.  Hope they find some good news with the bad.
