Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum so wanted to say a big hello  and see if any of you had any advice for me.
I had a mastectomy yesterday with implant fitted. I know it’s early days but I’m finding getting in and out of bed really sore and uncomfortable especially with the two drains in. With every movement, and especially getting in and out of bed I feel a real tug on the drain entry point which is really sore. Anyone have any tips or advice when sleeping after surgery? X

  • Hello. Hope you are doing ok today. Sounds like you are doing well. I think the main thing after mastectomy is to try to sleep where and when you can. I used a v shaped pillow and lots of softer cushions to keep myself propped up. I would sleep downstairs in a chair and did so for 2 weeks post mastectomy. If you are finding pain keeps you awake ask about gaberpentin if they've not already prescribed it. Please take care and hope your pain eases soon x

  • Me too! I've found co-codamol has helped so far. First thing this morning was uncomfortable but I thought it was just my new boob getting used to gravity Sweat smile

  • That sounds like good advice- thank you. I’ll send hubby out tomorrow on the hunt for a v shape pillow. Xx

  • I had one of those long pregnancy u shaped pillows which was perfect - we have a brass bed and I hung the drains on the bedpost at night when I had my mastectomy (in a cotton shopping bag) and also rigged up a coat hanger on the shower rail so I could hang them there when I had a shower x
