In April I was told I had dcis after finding a lump in my right breast (which turned out to be a cyst. ). The mamogram showed calcification which were classed medium to high. I had to have a wide local excision.

In May I went back and was told invasive cancer was found so i needed a 2nd op to remove more breast tissue as margin low and to have lymph nodes removed.

Just got back from seeing specialist to be told I was unusual and rare in that large cancer had been found in all the breast tissue i had removed. Lymph nodes all good.  So i am now waiting to see another specialist as i have to have a mastectomy on my right breast. I have said yes to reconstruction at the same time. I eas told that i wont need any chemo but probably hormones.

Im feeling numb. Not fully believing its really happening to me.

I have alot of questons which i will have to wait until my appointment.

Work are really supportive as I am off at the moment recovering from my last op. But I feel really guilty not being there.

Sorry to go on but my head is totally mushed up.

  • It's hard when you keep getting a bit more information and treatment plan when you thought it would be done in one operation.  You will get lots of support on here from ladies who understand xx

  • Hi It'sMarge

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you were diagnosed with breast cancer.  No need to apologise for going on as it's perfectly understandable that your head is all mushed up, a cancer diagnosis will do that to you.  I suggest that you make a list of all the questions you have for the specialist because it's easy to forgot to ask a question that you want to ask given all the information that is given to you during your appointment.  Also if you can bring someone in with you to the appointment so that you have another pair of ears, you could also ask the specialist if they wouldn't mind you recording the meeting on your phone so you can listen back to it later.

Wishing you the best of luck with your appointment and with whatever treatment you are put on.

    Best wishes

  • Hi  and another warm welcome to the forum. Sorry you find yourself here, but it’s a great place for support and shared experiences. You never need to apologise for rambling, ranting or raving here, we all ‘get it’ in a way that’s often not the case with those without cancer experience, however kind and well meaning.
Please try not to feel guilty about work though I was exactly the same. I hadn’t had a day off in years, but needed 4 months from op to end of rads (with 4 weeks from last day of rads). I had thought I’d be back 2 weeks after the op but soon realised that was not going to happen. Like you I felt very guilty but was lucky to have a supportive school.
You’re in that horrible limbo stage where the final treatment plan is yet to be decided, hopefully once it is you’ll feel better going forward. None of this is easy though so be kind to yourself and take all the time you need.
Sending love and a big virtual hug your way, HFxx
