Hello Wave

I have recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 HER2Postive Breast Cancer. I've had my scans and had the PICC line inserted yesterday and have been cleared to start chemotherapy next Thursday.  I'm normally a positive person and all this has thrown me

  • Hi,

    Sorry you find yourself here.

This is a good place to move forward on your journey. We are all here because we have been or are where you are now, and there is a wealth of support from people that “know”.

You are stronger than than you know, and although you may feel floored, once a plan is in place I hope you start to feel more able to cope.

I for one am taking to one day at a time, not looking too far ahead and trying not to be overwhelmed by the treatment. I’ve just had 2 really low days but I am going to beat this, my Chemo has started and I am at the end of what I call my first phase. I could not have stopped the Cancer from happening but I remain thankful I found it when I did and the treatment is available to me/us! Both are huge motivators to beat this.

Keep checking in here,,the ladies are a great support.

    xx

  • Thank you so much

I appreciate your lovely reply.  Wishing you every success on your journey HeartHeart

  • Hi Ratwoman, so sorry to hear about your diagnosis but glad that you are starting treatment.

It is really scary being diagnosed with breast cancer, I think most people are floored by the diagnosis at some point. I know that my emotions have been all over the place, some days I have felt that I cannot cope and others I have been remarkably positive. When I'm struggling I try to find some joy, something like a shaft of sunlight, some bird song, a smile from a stranger whilst walking. When I do this I find that I feel less anxious for that moment and if I can do it several times then the moments add up.

Wishing you all the best for your treatment and sending hugs Xx

  • Hi  thank you for your message. May I ask how your chemo is affecting you? You hear so many horror stories. Please, don't feel you have to answer that. Heart

  • Wave tone1

For me , chemo has been tough but doable , I have had some sickness and had a couple of infections which have needed antibiotics

The main thing is to speak to your oncologist or BCN and let them know straight away of any side effects you are having , don’t just try and get through , thinking you have to put up with them . There are lots of anti sickness meds for example that they can try . There are lots of adjustments they can make to help you , if you need Blush

Also , really important to remember that we are all different , for example I had sickness , I knew I would because I had really bad morning sickness / motion sickness but you might not at all

Do you know which chemo you are having ? Side effects tend to be different with different types

Try not to focus on horror stories , there are many many thousands of people that have chemo and get through it without any of those . The bad / sad stories are the ones we tend to home in on
