I’m 40 years old and almost 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer, invasive ductal carcinoma, grade 2, hormone receptor positive, HER-2 negative. I went in with a lump under my arm which they thought was nothing but they said they’d do a mammogram to be sure. It seems the lump is showing up clear but the mammogram picked up abnormalities in my left breast and a biology confirmed breast cancer.
I’ve had an MRI and a CT scan and I have a bone scan on Friday.
I’ve a meeting on Tuesday my consultant to discuss the plan moving forward. The waiting has been so hard and I just want it dealt with immediately. It’s hard being in limbo but I’m hoping Tuesday will be a chance to get answers and once I have a plan I’ll be able to focus on moving forward.
I am a mother of 3 children, 20, 16 and 15 and my youngest has her JC in 2 weeks so I’ve made a choice not to tell any of them until that’s over to give her the best chance. I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do.
I’m just so scared. I can’t sleep and I just feel so lost. My mind is wandering to all the worst places
Sorry to hear you're joining us here. See my details for more info. I'm 63, no lump felt, routine mammogram recall. Totall shock. 19mm Invasive ductal. Grade 2, OE8, HER2 Positive. Had lumpectomy, removal of sentinel lymph nodes. Clear Margins, nothing in lymph nodes. In effect cancer free now. However due to high chance of reoccurrence on the chemo, Radiotherapy and Herceptin injections bandwagon. Plus Anastrazole long term to reduce Oestrogen.
I think you're doing the right thing, waiting until you know plan before telling close family helps everyone get things in perspective once you know.
It's a lonely place but with support, from family, friends and this forum you'll slowly get your head around things.

Hi Pisces25
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with grade 2 breast cancer. What part of the country are you from if you don’t mind me asking, please feel free not to say. It’s perfectly understandable to be scared after getting a cancer diagnosis. Hopefully once your medical team has a plan in place for you things will start to improve.
I was diagnosed with grade three triple negative breast cancer just over a year a a half ago. After having chemo, surgery and radiotherapy I am now cancer free.
Whatever you do don’t Google your type of breast cancer as the information is often out dated, rely on sites like this one and breast cancer now.
Easy to say I know but try to keep busy to take your mind off what’s happening.
Wishing you the best of luck with whatever treatment your medical team puts you on.
Best wishes

Hi Daisy53,
Thank you for getting back to my message.
I just realised I wrote JC and that most people wouldn’t know what that was and then I saw that you are in Waterford. I live in Dublin with my husband and children.
Yes, I’m hoping that after tomorrow I’ll start to feel better and more in control of this once there is a plan in place.
Yes, I googled one thing and ended up down a rabbit hole wondering if every ache and pain I had meant it had spread. I stopped after that as I just got too scared.
Hi Jo,
Thanks for getting back to my message.
Yes, I feel that once I have a plan and I am more certain about where things are that it’ll be easier telling my children with more certainty. If I told them now they’d be waiting in limbo like me and they certainly don’t need that.
Already feeling so welcome in this community and it’s nice to have somewhere to go where people understand your feelings and fears etc.
Thanks xx
Feeling very frustrated after my meeting yesterday was cancelled as CT scan results not back and now I have to wait another week.
I know t can't be helped but I was so ready to find out more and begin moving forward so this just feels like a kick in the gut and i'm in limbo again for another week.
The waiting is so hard
Hi Pisces25
Sorry to hear that your meeting was cancelled yesterday due to your CT scan results not being back yet and that you have to wait another week to see your consultant. I know how hard it is waiting on results of scans.
Hopefully you will have answers next week as to what comes next for you.
Best wishes
