Hi I’m recently diagnosed, really struggling thinking it’s spread and can’t sleep. Can’t believe im on this rollercoaster and constantly scared

  • Hi WhitleyJo

Welcome to this forum and sorry you have been diagnosed. I know how you are feeling as I was diagnosed with breast cancer and positive nodes 3 weeks ago. I had to have a scan to see if cancer has spread and I am awaiting results/follow up. I have been advised that after the MDT meeting tomorrow I will get a phone call to advise me further. The first few nights after diagnosis I could only sleep for about 2 hours at a time but 3 weeks later my sleep has improved. I am still trying to cope mentally. For me it is the evenings when I sit down to watch TV that I worry most. When did you get diagnosed and have they given you a treatment plan or do you need a scan too?

    Best Wishes

I have a scan next week then chemo, surgery and radio. They said the ultrasound only is 75% reliable for detecting in lymph nodes so I’m filling in the gaps with worry & ive got uncomfortable feeling in my back and ribs

  • Morning, hi,

I hope you are ok, you are stronger than you think, this is one of the hardest parts and you will come through these feelings.

I’m sorry you find yourself here, what you are feeling is completely natural and I think we have all felt it. I was seeing Dr for other things before I found my lump so when I found it and went through to diagnosis my brain immediately jumped to putting every ache, pain, niggle and sensation I was feeling into this and I was convinced it had spread. I was then told I caught it early! I’m early stage 2, grade 3. My MRI and CT scan did not show signs of spreading. Please try and not over think, go with the facts as they present themselves. There are loads of success stories on here with all different stages.

Take time for yourself, feel what you need to but try and see a positive in every day, one day at a time xxx

Thank you so much it’s so hard.  I’m grade 3 too. I’ve been told il feel better once treatment starts as then you follow the path and focus on that. I just have to stay strong til I have the scan

  • Hi WhitleyJo

The ultrasound for me showed swollen lymph and they did biopsy on lymph node as well as breast lump. It sounds like for you they did not see anything suspect or they would have done a biopsy (I think). By doing the scan they are being thorough I suppose, that's what I am telling myself. Hope the uncomfortable feeling in your ribs and back are unconnected. Could you have sprained them in exercise/bending? It is so hard not to worry about what could be found and unfortunately that's what I'm doing. Every feeling of something and my mind runs riot although I try to be rational and say to myself not to worry. It isn't easy. Hope you get your scan soon, the waiting is horrible.

    Best wishes

  • Hi whitleyJo

So sorry to hear your feeling so scared it does get better once you know what your doing as you then have a goal of sorts. the waiting is always the worst I remember that when I was diagnosed I had to wait 2weeks to see the oncology consultant then on other week for having port inserted and my first chemo and the wait seemed to last for ever  I was feeling my lump every day probably at least 2 or 3 times convinced it was growing it wasn't but because it was all I had to concentrate on it was blown really out of proportion .once I started on chemo I didn't have time  as I had so many hospital visits for bloods pcrs chemo consultant so things do get better but remember your aloud to feel scared cancer is scary it affect your whole life and those around you too but you can do it and everyone on here  is here to help even if it's only to send cyber hugs or listen sending love XXX

Yes I think that the treatment will be something to focus on and Il feel better once I’ve had my scan next week. It’s good to talk to other people on the same path cos it feels too raw talking to family about some stuff. Thank you x

  • Hi,

I’m doing fine ty, round 3 of EC tomorrow, doing Chemo first and it’s has shrunk the lump from 32mm to 14mm so keeping positive that it’s doing what it should.

    hope you are good x
