Mastectomy

Hello, I'm new here.

7 weeks ago I had a therapeutic mammoplasty (left) and a breast reduction (right) to be matchy matchy.

Quite gutted to find, 3 weeks later that I would need a mastectomy (left) as margins weren't big enough. I choose no implant or reconstruction.

So, many tears and sleepless nights later, and still recovering from surgery 1, I am waiting for surgery 2, due next week, and just heard it has to be postponed.

I know it can't be helped, everyone is doing their utmost for all of us with bc, but it's difficult.

So much shock, distress and pain in such a condensed period of time. My heart hasn't really caught up with my head yet.

Sending best wishes and positive thoughts to all those going through this too.

Hi rjrjrj welcome to the forum and I am so sorry to hear about what has been happening for you. I confess I  am somewhat surprised that they went ahead with all that surgery in the first instance when the results were not back or they may well have felt confident enough to have gone ahead. I'm not surprised that your head hasn't caught up with your heart yet, its a bit like stepping on a rollercoaster and you don't get off when it stops, because something else needs attended to on the treatment pathway, so you keep rocking and rolling and moving ahead and then you don't have time to think.

Please keep in touch with us as we can all relate in some way to whats happening for you and how you may be feeling, so don't be scared to post and let us know how you are doing.. xxxx

Good morning granny59, and thank you for your lovely reply.

I like the roller coaster analogy, very apt! Every time I've breezed into the hospital for an appointment, planning to 'be home soon, no biggie', I've been floored by yet another negative to deal with.

It sounds as though you're an experienced roller coaster rider, sending best wishes, hope you have a peaceful day.
