I underwent a double mastectomy last April and have had a persistent seroma on the right side since then. I have seen my surgeon every 2 weeks for the past 6 weeks when he aspirated it. Unfortunately the seroma begins to fill up again after day 1. The plan appears to be to continue draining it 2 weekly in the hope it eventually goes but the volume of fluid is not much different. For some reason he is reluctant to undertake further surgery but I am not sure how long I can continue having it drained 2 weekly as it is now painful as area is no longer numb. I just wondered if anyone had a similar experience and did draining it frequently have an effect in the end or was another solution found or have you had to live with a seroma?
Thank you so much for replying to my post. It has helped to reassure me. I will continue with it being drained and hopefully over time it will go as yours did. Xx
Hi, mine is still there, about 6 months since surgery. I haven't had it drained as it's not that big or painful, but it's persistent. I've been told it will go in time
Hi Kerrie0603 welcome to the forum. Im wondering why they dont put a drain in and leave it there to drain that properly and save you having to have an intervention every 1-2 weeks as that must interfere with life in general for you.
Is it worth asking them about leaving a drain in for you to see what happens?
