Hi,
I had breast cancer eight years ago and underwent chemo, mastectomy and reconstruction. I have been taking Tamoxifen since on the whole I feel great. Just wondered if anyone else suffers from vaginal dryness and irritation, also periods of itching and soreness a few days after having sex. I have tried so many different remedies to no avail.I have been to the sexual health clinic and been assured that I have no infections.
My original diagnosis was given 6 months after my marriage broke up and after 39 years and I now have a new partner. The problem is causing him to be cautious about sexual activity for fear of hurting me.
Any suggestions very gratefully recieved.

Hi Sleigh welcome to the forum. Good for you with a lovely new partner but that vaginal dryness sounds as if it stopping you having the kind of relationship that you want. Its interesting as this question came up last week as well and the suggestions to date are Hyalofemme vaginal gel, Vagisil, Remplens or the YES brands, all vaginal lubricants and some can be put onto prescription with the GP if you ask and all no hormonal.
Best Wishes and hope you get something that helps.
Hi Granny59,
Thanks for your message. I hadn't heard of Hyalofemme and the pharmacist expressed surprise when she found it in stock. Keeping fingers crossed that iit works for me. I tried Replens once but weirdly turned toothpaste like so binned it.. My main problem is soreness and itching a few days after sex so really hoping that it works for that too
Hi English Rose,
Unfortunately I am not allowed to use anything with oestrogen in it. I think that's probably the source of my problem, but thanks for the suggestion.
I tried replens and the weird consistency it goes is actually your vaginal walls healing from the dryness. The instructions mention it and it goes away with continuous twice weekly use so may be worth considering again.
I ended up not liking the applicator so am now using Regelle, which are single use but a similar thing.
I'd also recommend trying out a few difference lubricants. I wasn't that keen on YES but get on really well with Durex sensilube as it has a more natural feel.
I had vaginal atrophy and really bad tightness from the chemo and then menopause but all of this is easing now with the twice weekly use of a moisturiser. It is a bit rubbish getting used to a new body, but thing have slowly improved and I'm starting to feel a bit more normal.
