Obviously my main aim is to get better but I was just wondering any advice on the cold cap please? I have done hair to start off with . Is this worth it?
I noticed nobody had responded so I thought I would to bump you up the list again. I didn’t cold cap but some ladies on here have with good results. The thing to note is that it does elongate that time you spend at the hospital on chemo days and no matter what you will loose some hair, circa 50% seems to be the norm. Everyone is different though and some ladies really are pleased with the results. For others it doesn’t work. As you’ll find a lot in the coming months we all respond differently to the and treatment, yes done similarities but some people sail through with no problems and done hit every hole in the road so to speak. All the best xx
I've just finished my chemo and managed to keep alot of my hair using the cold cap. I found I got a bit paranoid about my hair falling out as I went along. I cut it short before starting treatment. The advice to get through the first 15 mins of cold capping worked for me - I stopped noticing it after that. It is a bit uncomfortable, but I would say try it and see how you get on.
Hello, I tried the cold cap on my first chemo treatment as I was worried about losing my hair.
Sadly for me my blood pressure plummeted and we had to abandon the procedure as I nearly fainted.
I was pleased I had attempted it though.
My hair then fell out within 3 weeks of starting chemo. My daughter had cropped it to a blade 6 beforehand as my head/head felt very sensitive a bit like having hat head all the time??
To be honest, yes I was upset to see it falling out slowly even with short cropped hair, so I stood in the shower and washed my head about 3 times with baby shampoo until all the hair was out. I now wear my hats/scarves/caps etc to coordinate my outfit.
My hair will grow back and to me it’s now a symbol of me fighting the fight to beat this disease.
You do soon get used to seeing yourself with no hair and my 11 year old granddaughter said to me when I showed her;
Nannie you look more weird without your glasses
Good luck and remember your hair will grow back
