  • I have recently been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.  It  has spread to my lymph node and am waiting to start chemo.. anyone had a similar experience to this? I  have been referred to genetics because of my family history . I have 2 children and I am trying to stay positive  .I have good and bad days .I know this is normal but I cant help over thinking things.
  • Triple negative here too, and I too was referred to genetics because of family history. Have you been told what chemo regime you are going to be on, and when they plan to do any surgery?

  • Hi

Sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer.  There are a lot of women who have breast cancer which has spread to their lymph nodes.  Many, many of them have had BC and are no longer on the forum because they have got better and got on with their lives, but most of those that are on the forum are undergoing treatment now.

There is a group specifically for TNBC, but it isn't anywhere near as busy as this group, so it it is worthwhile joining that group, but stay with this main breast cancer site for advice on your treatment.  Here's the link.   You will find out what type of drugs you are being given and I am sure that there will be plenty of other ladies that can offer advice on your specific drugs when you know what they are.

As you say,, what you are feeling is normal.  Not easy to do, but try and take each day as it comes.

As you are being referred to genetics because of your family history, if you are BRCA positive, then there is also a group for ladies who are BRCA positive, which you may wish to join also. Here's the link to this group.

    Kindest wishes, Lesley

  • I am seeing consultant tomorrow,  hopefully it won't be much longer before my treatment starts . I just want to get started now. I think its 5 and a half months of chemo then they plan to do the operation.  ..All the best to you .

  • Thank you very much for this info. Regards.

  • Hi Star

Within the last two weeks I have been diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer too.  It has spread to 2 nodes, but nowhere else thank goodness.

I had my first Oncologist appointment last Thursday, and am waiting for my pre assessment appointment and date for my first chemo.

I have three grown up girls, and I have also agreed to be referred to genetics.  There is no previous history of cancer in my family, so they suggested this would be a good idea.

21 weeks of Chemo ahead, then surgery and then radiotherapy.

Keeping positive I feel is the best option.

I am hoping to feel the same after the first chemo session.

I am also going to have either a PICC or Port fitted, but would like to hear which is the better and can you get them both wet in baths and hot tubs?

thank you for all the comments on my previous post.

    Sandra

  • I cant believe how many people are going through this . It's heart breaking.  I wish you all the best.

  • Just want to say that I read your profile and admire your take on life. I hope that, if I get through treatment, j can travel to half the places you have and don’t keep putting everything off until ‘the kids are a bit older’. I want the memories also. X

  • Hi Sandrad

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.

When I was undergoing treatment for triple negative I had a PICC Line.  It’s recommended that you don’t get the PICC Line wet and that you wear a special sleeve in the shower to prevent it from getting wet.  I’m not sure about a port but maybe others on here can let you know about it.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment when it starts.

    Best wishes
