Hello I have been diagnosed recently with Grade 2 Invasive Ductal Breast Cancer. Oestrogen receptor positive HER2 negative
I am a patient at The Royal Brompton for my Lungs I have severe COPD mild Bronchiectasis colonised Psuedomonas & Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis I am 61 & I have responded well to treatment. I have just learnt to administer my drugs at home via a picc line for 10 days every 12 weeks to keep the Aspergillosis in check and various inhalers and anti biotic control the rest. I live in Hampshire and have a wonderful consultant locally too for shared care. I love our NHS I have an excellent quality of life.

Due to the above and my lung damage Targit-Iort has been suggested for me . I am going to the hospital to discuss today.

Pleas is there anyone out there who has had this operation or who has any lung condition and has gone through the same. It us the Anaesthetic they are worried about for me so hopefully I will have more news today xx

  • Hello Katkins60, welcome, you'll find lots of friendly support here. I hope that your meeting today and your future treatment goes well. I haven't personally had Target-Iort treatment but I've seen some posts from a member who has so have tagged them in to this reply x

  • Same BC diagnosis, had lumpectomy and sentinel nodes removed 3 weeks ago. I have heart problems and was worried about anaesthetic too. Op wasn't very long and no issues at all. NHS will look after you and get you through it. 3 weeks on, doing really well tbh. Margins were clear, lymph nodes clear too so really lucky. Do have to have Chemo, RT and Herceptin, not seen Oncologist yet but treatment should be starting in around 5 weeks time. Hope this helps a little.  We CAN do this!! Also will be on Anastrazole for good few years

  • Hello ,

Like LalaLou has said, I had the TARGIT IORT operation with combined radiotherapy. (Thank you for tagging me @LalaLou)

if you are suitable and offered this treatment I would say 'go got it - grab it'. It truly is amazing and mentally mind changing (for thr better).

I am sorry this reply is short - I am on my mobile and it's hard to type as screen is broken.  I just wanted to get a quick reply to you.

i am happy to share anything you want to know - I can't think of any negative points to say - everything was brilliant (maybe wrong choice of words - but under the circumstances this treatment really is just this 'brilliant'.

I really hope you are a candidate for this treatment.

Please let's us know how appointment goes x

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

How long was the operation? Do you take any medication now? Did you have any Lymph nodes removed ? What grade was you? How was your recovery? Sorry so many questions going though my head today. Xx

  • I just saw your post! Im at Brompton too, similar diagnosis. Been on IVs at home in past etc. very happy to chat. I’ve managed 2 lots of surgery no problems, chemo err longer story but kind of ok, now on radiotherapy and chasing Brompton this morning by coincidence, as I think I might have chest infection. The game changer for me was a consultant called Anand Shah who put me on monthly monitoring during chemo & was always available for the oncologists. He told it was virtually unheard of to attempt chemo on someone with CPA. I’m so hoping you got your alternative. I felt I got worst of both worlds in some ways with chemo and lung situation x

  • Hi

Just flagging that although I wish neither of us have to be on this forum, I am kind of relieved to find someone with similar existing condition to me x
