Hi everyone.
I've just finished chemo and radiotherapy after having a lumpectomy on my breast last July.
After a whirlwind of treatment, I need to start getting ready to go back to work. I'm nervous about this.
I've been off 6 months, I've lost my hair, put weight on and don't feel like me anymore.
Is this normal?
Sorry to say yes but yes! I guess we have to get used to the new us. These experiences, like any others, change bits about us, we change a bit as people, but, I think we all go through it once our treatment ends and we’re back to check ups periodically and back to our old life, for a while we’re the piece that doesn’t fit back in the puzzle. It takes time to recover mentally from what we’ve been through and because we’ve been through so much physically our minds start that additional process afterwards. I’m 3 weeks past my mastectomy and diep after the chemo, ongoing phesgo, and I feel it too, This is my second time around, and I’ve seen my sister after her treatment so I know to expect this but that doesn’t make it any easier. If you can or haven’t tried it I have found counselling helpful and Macmillan can help with this, I’m also going with the outward ‘fake it till you make it’ strategy I think!! In between bouts of crashing on the sofa feeling sorry for myself!!!
Lovely words Anna And so true..I'm half way through Chemo and can't wait til I get off this journey, I've been off work since September when I first got the news, surgery twice signed off work by Dr and won't be going back til treatment is over and I'm back to myself again, I don't know how I'm going to feel when it's over, but I think I'm going to need time to mentally recover, the thought of going to work with a wig on and looking maybe bloated and feeling terrible is the thoughts I'm having at the moment . We are all in different positions about work whether it be self employed or an employee and money worries.. macmillan financial help have been very good in guiding me what to do along the way so I would suggest contacting them Popsey to see if you can get more help with time off if thatss what you need until you feel ready..thinking of you..xx
