I had DCIS five years ago, I had a lumpectomy and 15 sessions of radiotherapy. Sadly at my last mammogram it had come back and I had a mastectomy a little over a week ago. My family and friends have been very supportive  but I would like the help of other ladies who knows what this all feels like and if I can help someone else that would be good too, thank you

Hi Katie.   I am in the same position as  you.  I was discharged after 5 years in May last year and two weeks ago had a mastectomy.  It is hard to get my head around.  I don't yet know about chemo - the sample is going to the states for further testing.  I keep asking myself why.  Of course I don't have an answer but I am trying to learn as much as I can about diet and natural health to go alongside medical treatment.  Sometimes I have been very frightened.  Other times I feel calm but it is a strange and lonely place despite my fabulous family and friends.  I am always happy to talk - and just to be alongside another in the same situation.  Best wishes and remember we are all here for each other

  • Hello ,

Sorry you find yourself here, however, if you have to be here then the ladies (and gents) on this site are truly amazing, welcome.

They understand, we understand, I do think there are no others that truly do understand the feeling - until you actually hear those words you will never truly understand, people, family and friends can 'think' they understand - but we all know they don't.

At the very worst time when you have been given a possible diagnosis - subject to biopsy results the person you talk to says 'owww don't worry you will be okay, you won't have it' - its like that sentence is suppose to 'fix everything and we no longer need to even consider it as an option'.

The good thing is 'it's out' - you have done so much already without our support - now you have found us just join in, it helps if you're a little loopy - we try to laugh and yet we do know how to be serious.  The help, information and support on here is amazing.

If you should have any problems sleeping or just want a chat or need to vent or ask a question, we have a thread called 'AWAKE' and its where most of us going - at any time of the day or the night.  I'll attach a link to the page/thread pop and have a look it might be of help - plus your valuable words might be very welcome for other that are about to embark on similar treatment to you.

    Again, Welcome xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x

Hi.  I’d say get the mastectomy pillow. I really appreciated having it that first week.  And do your exercises, rest well while you recover.  You’ve got this x

When is your surgery?  I’m finished with the pillow and you are welcome to it.  Then you could pass it on perhaps
