Today I went for my appointment. Had an examination by the consultant. Mammogram, ultrasound and then 8 core biopsy's. 4 on the breast lump,  and then the doctor decided to do 4 on the various lymph nodes under my arm, while telling me they don't usually do the lymph node biopsy's at this appointment. Feeling battered and bruised. That clicking is horrendous. Then had to go back to see the consultant who told me to stay healthy in preparation for surgery.  Although he did not say I had cancer. ?! Left feeling confused. Is it normal to have so many samples taken at once? I now have a 2 week wait for the results. Seems like such a long time.

I had my diagnoses last week.  Invasive ductal carcinoma triple negative Grade 3 Stage 2.  Crappy because it's grade 3 so it is aggressive, on the up side it is stage 2 so hasn't spread beyond my left boob and a lymph node.  I'll be having chemo to shrink it then surgery...and I don't know after that.  I saw the Oncologist last week and hopefully will begin next week.  Hope it goes okay for you xx

Hi Bimblebritain I’m in the same situation. Area of calcification seen on routine mammogram, nothing could be felt. Core biopsy ( 12 samples as 4 of first 6 weren’t good enough) of one area approx 2cm x 0.6cm. That was 6 days ago and I’m hovering by the phone for my results appointment! I’m trying to focus on more walking and really healthy eating and am generally positive. Tend to get scared at bedtime and when I wake in the night. Good luck x

  • He did not say you have cancer because he doesn't know for sure yet. It does however sound like he is very suspicious about what he is seeing, which is why he said stay ready for surgery. Once the pathology report is back with results from all the samples he would be able to give a diagnosis, and hopefully also outline a treatment plan, if it does turn out that this is indeed cancer.

For me, waiting for the results was always the hardest part, but like many here, I found out that once I had a clear idea of what I was facing and a treatment plan, things started to go more info focus and I felt more oriented and able to look to the future with more clarity.

    When is your next appointment?

Hi, I wasn't really sure what to expect at the next appointment. It's on the 14th. I didn't ask any questions last time because after examining me everything just went crazy. All the tests etc one after another all done in less than 2 hours. I was honestly just expecting to be sent home with nothing to worry about.

Waking in the night is horrible.  I wake with moments of pure terror. x

  • Yeah. Someone I know went through the same sequence, got to her first appointment after biopsies and scans, the consultant looked at her and sighed, then said, "We still don't know," as her biopsy came back inconclusive. By that time she was certain she had cancer. They investigated further, took more samples and did more scans -- no cancer. That was some years ago and she has not had any issues since. It's situations like this that make them cautious not to say anything until they are certain.

Too right! Whenever I’m stressed I wake shortly after falling asleep imagining that someone is standing next to the bed staring at me. The other night my brain said “it’s death come for you” What a ridiculous thing to think, total nutter material I am! It’s better when I don’t have alcohol… unfortunately Stuck out tongue

Thank you!.  I see the cancer nurse today.  Just waiting for my MRI then they can give me a date to start chemo.  They are hoping next week.  Whatever happens, they will sort you out.  xx

    Hi chickenlover,

Hope you get your appt soon and it's positive news for you too, the walking has been helping me too.  Keep strong and positive.  I keep telling myself if it isn't the news that I'd like then at the very least it's should have been caught early enough for it not to be an issue.

    Best of luck xx
