Have had second bout of treatment today but find it difficult to relax shoulders, would appreciate any tips/advice?
Hi
Have the radiotherapy radiographers said that they have a problem with your shoulders? It might be worth clarifying with them what the issue is and ask if they have any suggestions to help.
Are your shoulder tense because of anxiety or surgery?
Have you been doing your arm exercises after surgery.?
If you are anxious it might be worth looking up some relaxation techniques on line and practicing at home to see what works best for you.
If your problem is as result of your surgery then you will have to continue to do your exercises.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the advice I think I will have to try some relaxation techniques. I have continued with exercises every day since surgery. Radiololists have been wonderful and patient explaining it's probably nerves etc, whilst repeatedly asking me to relax my shoulders down.
It might be because you're just anxious. I wasn't wild about the radiotherapy, due to pain putting arm up at that time, but it does help to think that it'll soon be finished and to make a conscious effort to lie with eyes closed and really relax if you can - as in go floppy. They might play you music if you ask them. That might be more relaxing for you. Radiotherapy doesn't hurt, that's the advantage, and a session doesn't last for long. Think of it as treatment which is doing you good.
Hi
What they are trying to do when they position you is to get the three dots they put on you at your planning session to line up with the laser lights.Sometimes it’s just a couple of millimetres they need to move you and relaxing the shoulders down can help.
If they want your shoulder down towards your feet try to imagine a piece of cord pulling your shoulders down.If they want your shoulders back towards your spine imagine something pulling you through the breast board.
You will find that as treatment goes on you will naturally get more relaxed as you get to know the routine and the rads get to know you and your set up.
Good luck going forwards x
