Hi,
I'm a 3 times Hodgkins patient who now has Breast cancer and recovering from a bilateral mastectomy.
I'd so love to chat and get any advice from any Breast cancer patients or anyone who has recovered from Hodgkins disease and as a result is now dealing with Breast cancer.
I have survived Hodgkins disease 3 times and my treatment included chemotherapy, Mantle Radiotherapy and a stem cell transplant.
During the 1980's & 1990's. the treatment for this disease was quite primitive but it did work, hence I'm 21 years in remission from Hodgkins.
I am now recovering from a mastectomy for Breast cancer caused by my mantle Radiotherapy and possibly facing chemotherapy.
I was screened yearly for breast cancer and thought I had escaped but unfortunately 27 years after my Radiotherapy, I was diagnosed with Breast cancer. I'd love to chat with anyone who can relate to this .
Many thanks
Hello Nikkinoxx. I come from the exact oppoite direction to you. Breast cancer was my first diagnosis, then by chance they found out I have also been "blessed" with one of the non-Hodgkins. I know you are looking for Hodgkins, but thought I might drop you a line anyway.
I too had a mastectomy. However, they only took the offending breast, the other one is still hanging in there.
What advice are you looking for?
Hi GreyCats,,
I'm sorry to hear you've been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after your breast cancer.
I especially wanted to hear from post Hodgkins patients because it was my second attack of Hodgkins (I had 3 attacks) in 1994 and the relevant mantle Radiotherapy that has given me Breast Cancer. I was warned this would happen by my oncologists. Back in the 1990's and previous years the medics did not take precautions to protect the breasts as this was the new treatment. Now of course patients having chest radiation have their breasts protected.
Unfortunately if I hadn't had the Radiotherapy I would not have survived so its a heavy price to pay.
I'm recovering from a bilateral mastectomy and possibly facing chemotherapy but I still feel lucky to be alive.
I wish you lots of luck in your battle. You sound like a strong lady and its definitely strength that gets you through.
I'm happy to chat if you want. Hodgkins is luckily a cancer that is survivable. and I'm sure you'll come through this and live the happy life you deserve.
Sorry you ladies have had to suffer because of the radiation therapy .
technology and medicine has come so far in the last 20, 30 years .
my own father died early in his 60’s in the 1980’s, but bowel cancer , he didn’t have either chemo or radiation
do they now cover the ‘good’ breast in radiation
I wonder ?
