I had been recovering well following extensive surgery (4 hours in theatre) to remove all axillary lymph nodes up to Level 3 and surrounding extracapsular diseased tissue. My cancer is a recurrence 11/13 nodes +ve G2, fast growing after 11 years when I had a G1 IDC WLE with no lymph node involvement. My mammograms have all been clear for 11 years and still are. I am now at high risk, and still in shock, reeling from this diagnosis. Due to start chemo on Wed 5th FEC-T. I was able to do all exercises and stopped pain relief after 3 weeks. Last week, the slight seroma I had suddenly expanded rapidly and I was seen in clinic Xmas Eve where it was drained. It has come back with a vengeance and I now have a second boob in my armpit and great discomfort and scapula pain. I couldn't see anyone in clinic this week and have been told by BCN it is unlikely I will get to see anyone before chemo. The worst that can happen is it will burst through the incision, but hey ho not to worry just mop it up with towels!!!..... I am pretty disgusted tbh.......terrified of this happening and potentially stopping chemo, which I am also terrified about. Has this happened to anyone else?
Hi
I had a bad seroma around 3 weeks after surgery (WLE) and had a litre drained from it and 300 mls on successive visits. I wasn’t passed to oncology until this had healed. I’m not having chemo, but have had to have it checked by a doctor before radiotherapy. It’s still oozing and I’ve a load of dressings from my GP.
Hi I had a very large seroma, it started to develop about 2 weeks after surgery, I had it drained 6 times I think, the first time I had 500ml drained and by the evening it was back the same, so then I had it drained twice a week. Just make sure you continue with the exercises as this does help, I also tried massaging around the area. My BCN actually drained it 3 of the times. I would try and phone on Tuesday and see if you can see someone.
Hi
Many thanks for your post....I will be on the phone at 9am Tuesday and insist on seeing someone! I can only get relief by lying down, so will be difficult for a few days. I was told to stop exercises, not able to do them now anyway. Will carry on with massaging and hope I can prevent it getting bigger by complete rest. Thanks again
