No matter where I search can’t find anyone like me .,,sounds childish but was diagnosed stage 3c but had also cancer in supraclavicular nodes de novo I didn’t even have radiotherapy till six months after surgury ???was diagnosed   2020 started TDM1 august 2021 triple positive but am so uncertain as I feel in no mans land any information harks back like 2016 and since radiotherapy finished hard mass felt by oncologist on supraclavicular nodes ..I can’t get info regarding is it just scarring he couldn’t give a straight answer anyway anyone advice on what to ask at next apt which is 12 jan …happy new year listening to fireworks outside great but not really into it at min ..I’m usually a happy wee soul but seriously peed off ..secretly lots of love to all going thru this

  • Strange about not having the radiotherapy for such a long time. About the hard mass, can they do a biopsy? I'd ask that on the 12th, and if they say they cannot, I'd ask why. As I see it, it needs to be verified as benign first of all, because if it isn't it needs to be identified and treated, and for your peace of mind too.

  • Thank you so much for reply …hard to take day off from this but I find it very hard to get information on supraclavicular nodes it tends to be as secondary cancer ..I had it from the start they delayed on whether to surgically remove it etc as it was biopsies and thus cancer however it standard to irradiate anyway so it was quite a long time for radiotherapy to start I started new chemo first ..maybe due to covid backlog who knows but I find it hard to get straight answer know it’s a difficult area to treat but I am going to ask a few questions at next apt as I’m getting vibe it’s treatable but not curable hope all is going well for you and you enjoyed new year ..I was fed up and usually upbeat

  • Your opening post said they staged it as 3. Stage 3 is curable, so I would imagine this is the intention they went in with, but they need to tell you that clearly so there are no uncertainties as to how things stood at the start and where they stand at the moment.

When you go in for that appointment, remember that you are within your rights to have a clear and full explanation on everything that you feel you do not yet have enough information on. If the consultant is difficult, try talking to the nurse instead.

  • They said stage 3 before the biopsy of neck  I was told by surgeon he had more to take out than was planned all axillary to level three had cancer and they were fairly stuck to different structures etc but I had clear body ct in December just neck and head one to do in jan oh dear they’ll see my last marble rolling about but I must be more assertive and ask properlyxx

  • Understood. Very good about the body appearing clear on CT!

I'd ask again about the staging, so that you have a clear idea of that, then I would ask for a clear picture of the proposed treatments and what they are aiming to achieve.

If you are hesitant about appearing too assertive, is there someone (family, friend) you trust and who can listen in on the phone during the appointment and help with putting through questions and getting them answered?

  • Hey there just update as you were so good to reply maybe might help someone else too well I had apt today and spoke up about  my confusion and so consultant said ThHE SAME THING Afghan so I mentioneJoymy issue with my nurse and she said very important to be clear as possible and asked  the nurse in charge who said a clear ct means in my case cancer not gone (my neck nodes) but stable ie means notJoyng new to report .my bloods fine but waiting on head mri and spine to be sure so all that’s fine I still want to know where I fit in …they use metastatic to describe it as it’s not secondary as fromJoyhe off I bypassed that …I hang onto that I’m stable but it helps to know which forum then I could use etc hope all is well ..I swear I’m thinking of running an advanced communications class down theJoy JoyJoyJoy

  • Thanks for the update. Keep talking to them, keep asking them to explain anything you don't quite understand and if they keep repeating themselves tell them that doing so is not helpful and that they need to go into more detail. Some of it may be quite involved, but there is always a way to explain it to a non-professional, the person doing the explaining just needs to want to do it rather than be focused on trying to brush someone off.
