Hi all,

Had a surprise diagnosis on Wednesday after my first routine screening a few weeks ago.

After an ultrasound another mammogram and two areas that were biopsied, they called me back to say I had a large area of dcis and because of its size I need a mastectomy.  So I'm booked in for the 4th of Jan.

Luckily I'm quite pragmatic and am happy with a mastectomy if it gets rid of it. I'm also still happy with my choice to not go down the reconstruction route.

I've got a few questions  brewing, but may lurk and read for a while.

Just extremely grateful for screening as I had no idea there could be anything brewing.

Best wishes to everyone,

MM

    Hi MM,

Hope you're OK and glad you have a date for surgery set.

I'm off tomorrow to find out the results of my biopsy - I felt a lump and had a mammogram and ultrasound on Tuesday. I've been told it's cancer but now need to find out the stage/type and how we're going to tackle it Very nervous, but also want the meeting to happen so I can get sense of where we're headed.

I'll be lurking away too here and probably asking for help at some point!

    Thinking of us all tonight.

It must have been a shock with your diagnosis but you sound like you're calm and pragmatic about things. Are you OK receiving diagnosis and processing this....and have you got scans appointments? Thank goodness you actually went for routine screening!

    Sending u positive vibes.

  • Hi Macrame mum.

Like you I had a surprise diagnosis of cancer in October. I had my surgery on Wednesday.

I'm pretty pragmatic erring on the 'expect the worse' side but so far I cant give enough praise regarding treatment.

I have my results later this week, so I'll see what come next.

It's so good being involved in decisions and having choices and here is a great place for questions.

I'm not a huge joiner of support forums but the common sense, kindness and humour I ve seen from this group in the short time I've been a member  is unbelievable.

    Onwards and upwards !

    All the very best

  • Hi MM

Very similar story to me, so grateful for routine screening, as my first scan picked up a bifocal grade 1 cancer. Have had the operation to remove which was successful, just started on Tamoxifen and waiting to start radio after Xmas when all healed.

Such a whirlwind, don’t know if I am coming or going, but feeling so grateful for it being detected and out and now just need to start adapting to the idea that I had cancer.

I’ll be lurking and reading too, so good to be here with so many others, will be absorbing all the great advice on here

    Virtual hugs to all.
