Breast lump and calcifications

Hi, I can’t seem to find my original post, I’m not sure how to bookmark or follow on this?

recap: lump found right breast, went for mammo, ultrasound had biopsy, put in metal marker and saw the consultant. Consultant told me they’d also found microcalcifications that weren’t present on my 2017 mammo and he wanted stereotactic biopsy on those too. He said he wouldn’t give me results from lump until he had all the results - ball park six weeks. Got a letter for stereotactic biopsy on 16/11 phoned and said consultant said that needed to be done within two weeks. After three days of chasing, got phoned with an apt for next Tuesday (outside two weeks, but vast improvement).

I've just had another shock - letter arrived with an appointment at the breast surgery clinic next Thursday. I'm very confused Neutral face- rang breast unit and confirmed I still have my stereotactic biopsies booked in for next Tuesday and will wait up to two weeks for those results, but told they'd had a meeting and a clear decision has been made and I will be seeing the consultant next Thursday.  As you know, I was originally told consultant won't see me until they had all my results and now it seems they've made a clear decision on the lump and I have face to face with consultant booked in.

cant stop shaking - is this code for it's definitely cancer? X

  • Hello Mickey m. So sorry you're going through this confusion, during a worrying time. I can't say for certain that it means you do have cancer, but it's probably best to be prepared. Hopefully, it won't be, but if so, I'm sure you'll be fine. I was called back for a biopsy after my regular mammogram and it turned out to be cancer. I'm having surgery on Friday. I had my results on August 16th. I've been badgering them and I'm going to a Nuffield hospital, as an NHS patient. I had been called back twice before, but no malignancy. This time, I wasn't so lucky. I do feel very positive. I hope things work out positively for you.

    Take care,

    Sue.

  • Hi Sue, thank you so much for your reply. I’m trying to prepare myself, it’s just the shock that it’s not how consultant told me it would be.

Can i ask what they found on your mammogram this time?

im pleased you’re positive and have got surgery booked for Friday. That is a long wait from your diagnosis.

I’ll be thinking of you Friday and I’ll post an update after I’ve seen the consultant next Thursday.  Be pleased to hear how you are also.

    with thanks

    Mickey x

  • Hi Mickeym.

The diagnosis was dcis. I wasn't given much information on the day. However, my gp has since told me that it's a high grade, which is probably why the surgeon said, I will need three weeks of radiotherapy.

Let me know how you got on today.

    Take care.

    Sue xx

  • Hi Sue, I’m sorry they don’t give you enough information to process where you are at the time - I find that very difficult - I’m here if you need to talk too - I don’t get my first results until next Thursday, but I know that’s just the start as other biopsy results will still be pending then xx

thabk you for replying and I will keep you posted, it’s sooo hard and I hope you will too xx love Mickey xx

  • Most definitely Mickey.

  • I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow Sue xx you’re an inspiration, but I know you may not feel that way xx big love and sending all I can to support you xx love Mickey xx

Hoping things go okay for you, MickyM (was it yesterday or next Thursday?), and that you've not been shaking all the time these last few days. I hope you managed to ask a load of questions too. If you have further questions, or worries, do call your breast surgery clinic and ask to be put through to a Breast Care Nurse. They should be able to help and also support you emotionally whilst you wait for the appointment/results xx

  • Hi Katherine.h.p, thanks for thinking of me and posting. The consultant apt is/was booked for next Thursday afternoon. However, I got a text reminder for Thursdays consultant apt but have not had one for my stereotactic biopsy apt on Tuesday and so I rang breast unit again  and was told completely different to what I was told on Tuesday. I’ve now been told that MDT did take place on 30/09 and that they need more tests. I explained I already knew that consultant had told me at my first apt, but this person seemed to think that was the outcome of the MDT and therefore maybe I don’t need Thursdays consultant apt after all. She advised I rang breast care nurses for clarification and then ring her back if Thursdays apt is not needed !! I rang breast care nurses but it’s a voicemail only saying they try to get back to you within 24hrs, but not to ring them if it’s about apts. I left a message this morning (no idea what I said was in such a state). I’m just hoping some calls me.

I’ve gone from accepting that consultant wouldn’t tell me results on lump biopsies until stereotactic biopsies through to getting surgery clinic letter and practically being told it’s about lump as ‘good news’ clear decisions have been made and consultant will tell me - so I’m getting my head around it being cancer - to now doubting it all. My body and mind is in turmoil and I just can’t function with all this messing around xx over a month now since this started - I don’t understand what’s going on..

    thanks for being there xx

  • Hi there, so update breast nurse called me back. The lump is cancer mucinous (never heard of that) and dcis elsewhere,  which I’m told is the microcalcifications in a different section of breast. Hormone receptive positive (which I’m told is good). Will need surgery but I have to have the biopsies on the microcalcifications on Tuesday and they can’t come up with my treatment plan until they’ve had those biopsy results and have had next MDT meeting to discuss those. X

Well whilst this will be a shock you are now going to be treated and yes hormone positive is good . I had the micro calcifications too but went with a maesectomy so didn't need them looked at. Best wishes stay positive and between you and the surgeon and oncologist you will come up with the right plan for you X
