I’m a 21 year old woman, I noticed a white mark near my left nipple and the whole boob has been aching (kind of feels like when I went through puberty) that boob was always been bigger than the other. I have no discharge I don’t think but I think I can feel a very small lump under my nipple but again I’m not sure.
I noticed the white makes (almost like stretch marks) on Thursday and then Friday the pain started to develop. I’m only hoping if it is cancer that I’ve caught it early.

i’m incredibly scared. I called 111 and they said a clinician will call me at some point and I’m still waiting on their call. I really don’t want it to be cancer. I keep having anxiety spurts, for a bit I’ll cry but then I’ll convince myself I’m okay.

my friend said today that there’s no point in worrying because it might be nothing and I know there’s no point in worrying but that doesn’t stop me from worrying seeing as I have severe anxiety and have done since I was 5.

please if you have been through a similar experience or are going through a similar experience let me know. It’ll put my mind at ease, even if you have been diagnosed, it helps to know someone is there.

Great keep the pressure up ! Difficult I know but you can do it . If they won't see you get them to refer you to the breast hospital in your area. And get a name for all the people you speak too x

I’ll try, I broke down to 111 just now and went through to the mental health services which hopefully they give me an out of hours appointment I just don’t know what to do

That sounds good. Hope the mental health team can help you through this.

Another suggestion is to turn up at Urgent Care (if you have one associated with A & E in your local hospital). You will probably have to wait but you should get to see a GP.

I’m on hold now to the main bit of 111, I’m crying my eyes out. My hospital has urgent care but I went to A&E yesterday and I was told to phone 111 so im not sure what to do

Keep holding on for the time being and hopefully they will be able to help. You never know, they might help speed up the process of being seen by someone ... And if you do go back to A&E for Urgent Care prepare to be assertive and insist on seeing a GP.

It's the "not knowing" that's been the worst bit of all for all of us and we empathise with your distress. But just remember, many breast cancers don't grow that quickly, so even if it is something seriously concerning a few hours delay will be okay.  xx

Thank you, the doctor did say that it doesn’t grow that quickly but I’m worried that what if I’ve had it for years :( I’ll probably break down to 111 when they answer and say I need to be seen because I can’t cope

  •   I've just come across your posts and wanted to reply incase you are still awake and worrying.  I'm still up for a bit longer if you need to chat.  If you need to chat later in the night sometimes there are others on the AWAKE thread who are not asleep at all sorts of hours in the night so you could try posting there - click HERE

It's inevitable that you are going to worry but try and take a deep breath and remind yourself that in the very unlikely event that it is cancer that breast cancer is very treatable these days with very high success rates. The majority of lumps especially at your age turn out to be nothing sinister.

There are so many success stories on here

    - of ladies with very large tumours,

    - of ladies who suspected there was a problem and ignored it,

    - of ladies like myself who missed my first mamogram and never examined my breasts and who developed a symptom and it didn't even occur to me it might be cancer so I ignored it for months yet I am fine and cancer free now.

    - of ladies where it spread to the lymph nodes and they too are cancer free now

I really don't think this will turn out to be cancer but the whole waiting to find out can unfortunately be excruciatingly stressful.  But you can do it.

    Sending hugs.

Thank you! It’s just I've noticed just now that the same breast has changed shape and kinda looks flatter at the bottom

GodWilling is right. Please read what she said several times over Anxiousgirl21, it may help you.

I wanted to add that when I was younger and had periods, my breasts changed size and shape each month with my cycles.  I hope you don't read this until morning after a good night's sleep!  Sleep and a bit of exercise can help a lot with stress whilst you wait.

    you get some rest.

  • It is very important that you explain there have been changes to your breast. It is highly likely to be nothing. However, mistakes are being made because GPs think some people are 'too young' to have cancer. It is also not true that cancer doesn't grow quickly - some types do. And, unfortunately, some cancers do cause pain - such as the very, very rare inflammatory breast cancer. If you cannot impress on your GP surgery the urgency, I would definitely get some advocacy from the mental health team. Having your mind put at rest asap is important to your overall health. I am sure it is nothing, but the worry will make you ill. Katherine.h.p correctly points out breasts do change at certain points in life and this is normal.
