I know I’m a little premature in joining this group but I just have a really bad feeling about the lump I found in my breast on Saturday night. I haven’t slept since. I went to the doctor who has referred me to the breast clinic. She said I might hear within a week as they are working fast these days. In the meantime I’m crippled with anxiety and barely functioning. My life has paused. The doctor said in her opinion she’s suspecting fatty tissue but wants to be 100% sure. But she’s gonna say that right?
The lump is quite hard but movable. It’s painless but not round, more oval shaped. It’s rough edged. I’m so frightened. I wondered if movable is a good thing or bad? Im 37 and the lump is my right breast.
love to you all
Lucy x
Hi Lucy, you don’t know as yet what you are dealing with as your gp said, although I appreciate its very frightening. When I was diagnosed 3 friends found lumps off the back of checking because of me and non of them were cancerous, our breast do some crazy things sometimes. You will be seen very fast and hopefully you have the same one stop shop system we have in Wycombe where you are manmogrammed, then if need be ultrasound then if need be biopsied on the same day. I was seen 2 weeks after finding my lump. Also please remember that many breast cancers are treatable and often even if you have a cancerous diagnosis you may not be looking at chemo. Good luck with your diagnostics and try not to make yourself poorly worrying x
Hi, when I went to the doctor with my lump in breast she immediately said it was very suspicious and she was concerned. One of the things I have really appreciated with my breast cancer is the honesty. In the breast clinic they showed the same gentle honesty. I was seen within a week. Hope that reassures you a little. Good luck x
Hi Lucy. I have had similar experiences to the others here and went to a 1 stop shop a couple of weeks after my lump was picked up on routine mammogram for an assessment (further mammograms, ultrasound and biopsy). Everyone was very honest with me and there was support from breast cancer nurses after my appointments to help me digest what I was told and give me some emotional support.
When I went to get biopsy results the consultant did an examination and he felt a second lump which he thought was a fatty lump but wanted to be sure. I was sent for a further ultrasound with the radiologist within a few days and it turned out to be a benign fatty lump. I found myself feeling so relieved and elated that the second wasn't cancerous that I almost forgot that the first one was worrying.
You will have your answer soon. This is the worst time when you don't know. Try to keep as occupied as you can (talk to friends, see people, eat chocolate) and hold onto the fact that in modern medical training staff try to be as honest as possible about things. Keep us posted and good luck. We'll be with you. xx
Lucy
I think if my doctor said that she suspected fatty tissue I'd be reassured, but you still need that check. At the one stop Breast Clinic I attended, where they used ultrasound (which is really good) and I insist now they use it on me even after surgery, the Radiologist who was doing the ultrasound and biopsies said she suspected cancer and she was correct. I'm glad she forewarned me before results were formally given to me. I don't think tumours move about.
Bless you and thank you so much for responding x
Thank you so much. Trying to keep positive. Just feel drained with worry. You are all such amazing women xx
Thank you so much for your lovely response. It really is the worst time waiting. I almost went private but it’s so expensive. Keeping busy working lots and making sure I’m never alone for long as that’s when I over think! Sending love x
Cancer or other serious lumps will have these signs:
These lumps are very difficult to assess oneself. My lump hurt. (This was once I became aware of it as I wasn't before the Radiographer found it herself, on ultrasound). It was kind of near the armpit. The nurses said it could not possibly hurt, but it did. When I poked it whilst in the bath one day it certainly did, so I stopped doing that !!! You are doing absolutely the right thing. If you didn't have it checked out properly it would be an even bigger worry for you, so well done !
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
