Hi everyone I m new to this. I m a 64 year old woman who had a mammogram recall for the first time last month and after a nervewracking couple of weeks I had more mammograms, an ultrasound and a core biopsy with a clip inserted into the area ( Calcifications) They said it’s 50/50 that it’s cancer .My husband and I had booked a holiday abroad so they ve said that I should go and come for the results the day after we return. ( 30th) I m so anxious, imagining walking into the appointment and not knowing what will happen. Do they usually tell you the results straight away? Is there a breast care nurse present even if it’s good news ? I m all over the place at the moment but hopefully will be able to switch off a bit when we re away. Thanks for listening.
Hi Gal
Welcome and sorry that you have had to join this forum, as it means that you are worrying about BC.
I hope that you can enjoy your holiday away and that you get some quality time after the terrible year and a half we have al had during the pandemic.
We have all here found the waiting for results to be the worst time. It is a form of mental torture. Try to keep busy and do the things you like. You have not been diagnosed yet, so don't jump to any premature conclusions.
At the results meeting most people have been able to take someone along with them for moral support, if they have wanted to, even with the Covid restrictions. Often the accompanying person will have to wait in a different/bigger area and when we are called through from the clinic waiting area a nurse will go collect them.
Rest assured that if there is anything cancerous going on, your care team will do everything to tailor treatment to give you the best outcome. BC is very treatable nowadays and the earlier it is caught the better ,which is the reason for the mammogram programme which recalled you. Here's hoping that you are having a false alarm.
Wishing you good times on your holiday.
Let us know how you get on.
All the best

Hi Gal. Your story is almost identical to mine. Although I had two previous scares, one was calcification and the other a cyst. The third time I was recalled after my routine mammogram, they did the same as for you. Unfortunately, I wasn't third time lucky. It's cancer, non invasive, so won't spread, hopefully. I'm still waiting for surgery, after being diagnosed on August 16th. I will then have three weeks of radiotherapy. I'm staying positive. I know it's not easy to not worry. I didn't worry until diagnosis, deciding to worry when there's something to worry about. I wish you well and enjoy your break.
Thank you Biddygirl and Wallydug for your replies. I will put it to one side and try to have a good holiday. I m sorry you had a recent diagnosis of BC Biddygirl . Best of luck with your journey. How comforting to know how far medicine has come with our mammograms, early detection and great treatment .

Sorry you have no joined us, yes breast cancer nurse has been present for all of my appointments. I had tumors and calcifications too . They are sometimes not cancer but as mine was and were coming out I had a bilateral mastectomy they didn't need to test them beforehand. The mastectomy was my choice by the way. These things grow slow and it may not be cancer so go on your holiday and try and relax .
Take care even if cancer treatment very good today X
