Hello . I’m new to the group but I’m 2.5 years on since diagnosis. I’m currently flat after 2 separate mastectomies 11 months apart . I’m considering reconstruction, in particular the implant that is inflated with saline and then left in place opposed to having expanders and then replaced by an implant. If I do go for reconstruction I’m wanting as little surgery as possible and don’t want a silicone implant.
Does anyone have experience of this type of implant, particularly having it placed from flat rather than immediate reconstruction?
Im trying to weigh up the pros and cons . Being flat doesn’t really worry me and I go without my knitted knockers/ prosthesis most of the time BUT when I do wear them I feel far more confident and comfortable about my body shape however I don’t find wearing them comfortable which is why I’m now considering reconstruction.
Recovery is also a huge consideration as we have 5 children, 2 with autism and 1 with adhd . I home educate our son with adhd and provide all personal care for our 9 year old with autism. I also spend 2 hours a day on the school run due to them attending different schools. I would be grateful for any experiences anyone could share . Thank you
Hello PidgePie
Sorry that you needed to come to the forum, as it means you have concerns regarding BC or the aftermath. I had lumpectomy etc so reconstruction was not an issue for me. I thought I would reply to put you back to the start in the hope that some of the reconstruction ladies will contact you.
You do seem to have a lot on your plate and as a mum your children will always come first. Just make sure to take a bit of time and be good to yourself, as well. The happier you are with yourself, the happier your children will be. Maybe having a conversation with your BC nurse or McMillan could give you an idea of what is usually involved in the recovery from reconstructions. I am not sure if there are any respite services, family or friends who could help you with the children during an immediate post operative period??
Make the best choice for you, after you have done your research and have all the information you need.
All the best

Thank you for replying I’ve even been to the reconstruction clinic but they were running extremely late so it was very rushed (even lights were being switched off!)and it was more about diep than implant and showing me what other ladies outcomes were rather than showing me where scars /incision would be on me specifically and what my expected outcome would be.
As with my 2 mastectomies my husband would juggle work and the kids . I took 10 days off most of the housework and mum duties but by the 10th day I was back to doing everything.
Im seeing my consultant in December to discuss scar revision or if I’m decided on reconstruction so want to gather as much information as possible in the meantime.
