Hi everyone. Here is a summary of my journey so far snd it's so lovely to be able to reach out to you all
I was diagnosed with BC 10 May following a mammogram and ultra sound. I had noticed a slight dent in the side of my nipole and was referred really quickly. Had biopsies, CT and PET scans. Right breast mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsies on 7 July. Came out same day with 1 x drain in which I had for 7 days. I have a long but tidy scar. Still have some swelling and numbness and discomfort and still do my exercises and have good arm movement. Trying to get used to my prosthesis although to be fair most of the time I go without it and drape a pretty scarf around me. But im told that is not good for your posture.
Am Her2 positive, ER/PR negative. Stage 3 aggressive. 5inch (I'm 55) Cancer in breast and spread to 1 lymph mode. Vascular invasive positive. Started chemotherapy 23/8. 6 cycles of FEC T. Start herceptin at cycle 4 and continue this for 18 months. Radiography after I finish my 6 cycles of FEC T
Ended up in hospital 6 days after cycle 1 as it wiped out my immune system completely, I caught an infection and had sepsis.
But they have reduced dose on cycle 2 to 80% so fingers crossed as I only had that yesterday!
My hair fell out after 2 weeks from cycle 1 and I had it shaved using an electric razor on zero so at the moment it is visible but becoming bald (if that makes sense). So it looks a mess and is uncomfortable. I was wondering if I could use a wet razor to get rid of the stubble and make it bald and smooth ? Or do I have to use an electric one?
Good luck everyone out there. Everyones journeys seem to be different and it is so scarey. And I found the waiting between tests and appointments was just awful. But ts ok to cry snd scream. Rely on people, write questions down and ask them of the surgeon, your breast nurse and the oncology team. They are there to help and they really don't mind you asking Xxx
Welcome! Well I went to the Turkish barbers in my village and they wet shaved it for me with great care, was an oddly moving experience. That said I’m onto cycle 4 now and I do get occasional bits of regrowth here and there, it never lasts long and always gives up if a give my head a scratch which I find oddly therapeutic!! So I’d say yes but carefully, as you know first hand risk of sepsis, infection, etc x
Hi, wow you have a lot going on. I’ve had a double mastectomy, one cycle of Herceptin and Perjeta, two cycles of paclitaxal. I had my long hair cut into a pixie cut before treatment started and I think I’ll get my OH to shave it the same as you did. I agree with Anna12345 you need to be careful about cuts leading to infection with a wet shave, I like the idea of a Turkish barbers I think one has just opened up in our high st. Good luck with the rest of your journey.
