Hi, just joined the group. I had DCIS in my right breast two years ago treated with surgery an radiotherapy successfully. On my annual mammogram this year they picked up a tiny cancer in my left breast which has now been removed. Very thankful for the screening program (which also picked up the DCIS).  I’m now having to have chemotherapy which I find quite scary so thought I’d join the group. Interested in other people’s experiences and suggestions on how to cope. I have lots of supportive family and friends but having to shield from Covid is an added pressure.

    Hi Chooks78

I'm sorry you are here with another bout of cancer. So good it was picked up at screening. Did you have chemo with your first Cancer ? I still waiting for my results from Oncotype  almost 6 weeks I am convinced that they will be recommending chemo , it's frightening isn't it .  But you have come through this before so you can do it again .

    Take care

  • Hi Chooks78

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer again.

While I won’t say chemo is easy it’s not quite as scary as you think. Your medical team will do everything in their power to make you feel ok while you are having chemo. If you do have any side effects that you feel you can’t cope with just ring your oncology team and they will tweak your chemo and or meds to make sure you get better.

I found keeping myself busy helpful as I went through treatment helped me cope with things. I didn’t have too many side effects.  I lost my hair after my second round of chemo and got some neuropathy in my hands and feet after my 5th round of chemo. Otherwise I got away lightly on the side effects front.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment when you start it.

    Best wishes

No I didn’t have chemo the first time. I feel quite positive it’s just not knowing how it might affect you

Thanks Daisy53. I’m hoping it won’t be as bad as I fear. Neuropathy is one of my biggest fears as I’m a passionate knitter and crocheter. Would be devastated if I couldn’t do that! Hair I’m not too worried about. Feeling sick is my other horrorJoy
