Hi, I'm new here. I'm finding the wait between treatments hugely stressful. I was first diagnosed with lobular cancer at the beginning of May. An MRI then showed a second cancer in the other breast. I finally had a double lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on 9th June which sadly showed a further cancer, no clear margins and evidence of cancer in my lymph nodes on one side. I was advised on 21st July that I need chemotherapy and was told that this would start before the end of August. My first appointment for a "chat' with the chemo nurses is not until 6th September. This seems like an incredibly long time especially as I have been fully recovered from my op for a while now. I just wondered what other peoples experiences were.

  • Hi Lumpy1

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer last September and had a six week wait to start treatment, I started at the end of October.  I had chemo first then surgery and radiotherapy and I'm now in remission.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment when you start it.

    Best wishes

Thank you. I start chemo on 14th September. Relieved to finally have a date in the diary. Are you currently receiving treatment? x

  • Hi pleased you have a start date for your treatment. I thought they liked to start treatment 6 weeks after surgery, so how long has it been since you had surgery  Best wishes xx

  • Did you have to have further surgery to get clear margins, or removal of yr auxiliary lymph nodes xx

I've actually asked them to investigate why it took so long. I do need to have a double mastectomy and auxiliary node removal as they found further cancerous areas and that it had spread to my lymph nodes. The surgeon actually called me back a week earlier than my original appointment to give me my results. I chased through the Macmillan nurse who told me that they were doing the appointments the next day. Still heard nothing and had to chase again before I finally had an appointment. My chemo nurse said that they had to start chemo within 31 days of my oncologists appointment and just said that I had to be recovered from my surgery. However I had no issues recovering from my surgery and would have been ready to start more than a month ago. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't affect my outcome.
