I had a lumpectomy and nodes removed on 6th June 2021, I have also had a course of radiotherapy and I am now on Letrozole fir the next 10 years.  I was not given any exercises after my operation, but I am now still very uncomfortable when lying on my operated side.  My arm all the way down the firearm us still render and painful.

The scare from the lymph nodes are still red and sore and my breast scar is very indented and puckered, and ugly.  I know it could be worse but any suggestions to help reduce the pain and scarring.

  • Same here, despite doing exercises. Press for physiotherapy.

Hi Tag1965, so sorry to hear about your pains.

I was given a paper version of the link below, but it may be that you are at a later stage of healing so will need different exercises etc to help you. Might be worth calling your breast care nurse to get some help and a referral to physio..

https://patientinfolibrary.royalmarsden.nhs.uk/document/download/1413 It's from The Royal Marsden and is written by their physiotherapy department and is called "Exercise & advice following breast surgery".

  • This is a really good leaflet, and the best one I've seen. Thank you so much ! I certainly didn't realise that some of these exercises need to be continued for 2 years after radiotherapy ! I was told by BC Nurse after a very detailed exam of the arm causing me trouble (after implant) that if there is a problem the muscles may seize up so that later on down the line mobility will never be achieved, so it is unwise to wait. I've asked for my urgent referral to Physio to be chased up. I believe there is a long NHS waiting list for individualised physio treatment, which is obviously what people like us really need. Otherwise radiotherapy is unnecessarily uncomfortable for 15 days.....so offputting.

  • Thanks for sharing the leaflet. The Set A exercises are the same as the ones I was given, but the other information regarding post surgery is really helpful
