Hi everyone
Im Frenchie53. I was diagnosed with inoperable bi lateral breast cancer in april 21. Im into my third month of chemotherapy and hormone treatment and tbh thought i was doing really well, but this third month seems to be a lot harder in terms coping with the side effects of the drugs. Can someone advise me does it slowly get worse or does your body become accustomed and better at dealing with it all?
Hi Frenchie, welcome to the forum, sorry you find yourself here. Generally and anecdotally the side effects do accumulate as time goes on I’m sorry to say but often raising the issues you’re having with th the chemo nurses helps them tweak your support meds to help you cope. Secondary infections such as UTI’s also can cause some issues. I’m on EC-T chemo, which are you on? It might help if ladies on the same treatment as you respond as they can all be different. For me each cycle has had differences in the side effects which has been odd, I’ve seemed to have some side effects one cycle, say like diahorrea first time, then constipation on all others! Insomnia, Headaches, lethargy, weakness, farting and wind Then after a few days sore mouth kicks in and a few other joys. Gradually I start to feel better again x It’s really rubbish isn’t it and so hard to explain just the total feeling of unwellness you get. Big hugs xx
Hi Frenchie, sorry to hear about your cancer but you are in the right place for support, advice and hugs, I found I lost ground after every chemo and eventually they reduced my amount as I had the most terrible diahorrea, the chemo builds up over the weeks so you will really really tired towards the end but there is always an end. If you get a change in drugs it might change your side effects and again seems better at the start and gets slightly harder after every treatment, I am hoping that after 3 months you are nearing the end of the hardest part of cancer treatment. Ann
Hi Frenchie,
I had 6 rounds of chemo. 2 EC and 4 Docetaxel with Herceptins. Rounds 4 and 5 were the worst. Round 6 was easier.
You could speak to your BC Nurse about changes to medications and other strategies to make things a bit easier. I found exercising helped, I didn’t over do it!
I hope your treatment is working well.
Bluebell xx
