Hi there

In February I had a mammogram and it was clear then two weeks later I noticed a lump in my left breast had a feeling about it so went to a private doctor that my Mother had seen when she had breast cancer.  He assured me that it was 99.9% fine.  I was then referred by my GP to the Marsden.  They too reassured me it was nothing and just because of  my insistence they would carry out a needle biopsy to appease me. On having this done the radiographer said she couldn't get any out and that it was unusual.  I was then scheduled for lumpectomy still being assured that it was nothing.  On coming round from surgery I was assured by my surgeon that it was nothing to worry about as he had obviously seen the lump.  When I went back to get pathology results it was indeed cancer.  I was shocked with everyone telling me it was not cancer.   My lump was small 8 mm and I was again told it wouldn't have spread to my lymph glands but they had to make sure.  Scheduled in for a partial mastectomy (I think that is what it's called as half my breast is gone) following week  and sentinel node biopsy.  That came back from pathology lympth glands 2 out of 3 positive and they had found another cancerous lump in the part they had taken off smaller 6mm but they have not cut enough away.  CT and Bone scan clear.  I am now awaiting MRI 28/8 for my treatment plan I know I need more surgery and full gland removal.  In the meantime I have been asked to see Oncologist which I don't know why but they said to see about having a specialised test that I will have to pay for.  Has anyone heard of this?  Sorry this is so long but also all through this my consultant has said to me that I am an anomaly and I am very intuitive which just makes me even more nervous.

  • Hi Loakey02, so sorry to hear about your BC, there are lots of us one here and no doubt someone will be able to answer your questions, you can also ask your BC nurse or ring the mcmillan helpline or breastcancernow has a helpline where you can talk to a specialist nurse.  I saw my oncologist everytime I had chemo but I don't know about the  test you need, hopefully you won't have to wait too long before you get answers, thinking of you, love from Ann
