Hi everyone I'm new on here

I have aggressive breast cancer and having chemo to try and strink 4 tumours and hopefully surgery  after chemo has finished. I'm due for my 3rd session on Friday.

I have started to experience a  runny nose I don't suffer with hay-fever and was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. Its so embarrassing especially when you are out as it just ramdely happens.

  • Hi   and welcome

my story on profile just click on my name to have a read .

I finished chemo in Dec 2019...  EC X6  and yes I did get runny nose . I don't know what chemo you on but EC can affect the sinus area .i was also told that because of hair loss it gets a bit of speed up with no hair to trap it Joy Hence bend forward without tissue to nose is a no no Joy

    Stay well

  • Hi Bekindtoyourself

Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have breast cancer. My nose ran constantly when I was on chemo but stopped when I finished treatment.

wishing you the best of luck with the rest of your treatments.

    Best wishes

They are hitting me hard with treatment so much to take in. Thank you

  •

Take a breath its very hard to take everything in at first . Ask as many questions you need to both of your team and on here .

There is always someone who is or has had same treatment . You'll see from my profile I had 8 days before masectomy ,in reality it was only confirmed two days before . It gets better as treatment moves on .

It's two year this week since I started chemo after being told mine was HER2 positive which meant a lengthy plan to prevent recurrence. Plan doesn't finish til next year.

The point is I'm still here living my life we all including yourself are stronger than we think . Treatment has progressed so much BC can be very treatable .

yes treatment can be very unpleasant but it is doable take care of yourself and listen to body .

    keep posting

  • My oncologist advised me to take an antihistamine, which has helped a bit though not completely

I'm going to ask at the hospital on Friday but I also have a call from the cancer nurse tomorrow so I will ask to see if there's anything they can do.

  • Hello

I am a member of the chemo-drippy nose group too. Upside down

  • Bekindtoyourself, hun I had a constantly drippy nose too on chemo (3 x EC, 1 x Docetaxel and 6 x Paclitaxel). I think, as had been said, you loose the hairs in your nostrils so the usual fluids are not as “contained”! Better to get checked out in case but I think (and my oncology team did not appear concerned at all by this) that it is a normal side effect of chemo. Mine got considerably worse after I had to have my nose packed and cauterised (clear liquid ran for almost two weeks non-stop where had to sleep with a tissue under my head!) but it returned to normal pretty much as soon as I finished the chemo.
    Warm hugs,

    Bekky
