I'm recently diagnosed with breast cancer and am feeling completely out of my depth.  Am feeling so anxious and worried I'm not understanding all the information being given to me.  My chemo is hopefully due to start next week and I have so many questions, I don't know where to start.  How is everyone coping with so much information?

  • Hi Dee1971…..sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis, I think everyone feels out of their depth along the way…..so many different words and phrases being fired at you it’s hard to take it all on board. I hope you have a good bc nurse you can call on if you need any clarification of anything that’s been said to you, they are there to help you along the way. This forum is also full of people who have experienced a variety of different treatment experiences, who I’m sure will be able to help with any particular concerns you may have.

    Sending good wishes x

    Hi Dee 1971

I'm sorry to here your news  it's an anxious time . I had surgery first not sure about chemo yet I hope your chemo goes well I'm sure the first one must be daunting and as you say so much information , it does get better as time goes on it's been 9 weeks since my lumps are found so I have been in a difficult place but once treatment started I have felt better . Take care thinking of you

    Jayne

  • Thank you so much for your reply MrsPolly.  It makes such a difference to know there are others out there going through the same thing and we can call on them when we need to.  I hope you're ok and not having too bad a time, whatever stage you're at.

    Sending hugs x

  • Hi Jayne,

Thank you so much for your kind message and i'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis.  I thought I would have surgery first but it's the other way round for me.  My first chemo is on 27th August and I have so many questions to ask, don't know where to start.  All my questions seem silly but i'm told are all relevant and not at all silly.

I hope you're on the way to recovery having had surgery.  Do let me know how you get on and hopefully we can help each other along the way.

    Take care,

    Dee x

Thanks Dee, let me know how chemo is  next week mine will be in about 5  weeks time I think. Surgery was fine   I like  my new faux boobs I went for small ones my chest looks as if I'm about 22 not bad for 64!  Just recovering from surgery now it's frustrating as I want to go out but can't really do that on my own yet My daughter on holiday but back next week so she will take me for a nice walk. Thinking about you Dee and others all us hopefully we will all be better soon x

  • I had surgery 5 weeks ago,  now a fully flat, cos already had mastectomy 26 years ago and no reconstruction offered at the time….no chemo needed then but now waiting to hear about poss chemo, so that will be new for me…..it’s good to be able to share experiences about the various treatments. Any question that’s relevant to you is certainly not silly.

    Take care x

    1. Hi I'm having my 3rd chemotherapy session this Friday, and another session in September to hopefully srink the tumours. I have four tumours two large in my breast and two in my arm pit. After two sessions I can already feel the difference. As far as chemotherapy goes the first session is very daunting as you don't know what to expect, but the nurses are brilliant and they do take very good care of you. The first session is the longest but after that it's shorter. Take a book to read, word search anything that will take your mind away from it all. I try to dose off that' way the time does go quicker. Good luck with your treatment sending big hugs.
