Hi,
I was diagnosed on Tuesday based on ultrasound and X-rays following a screening mammogram last week. Have a follow up next week, when I should hopefully get the biopsy results and find out something about grade and a treatment plan, really hoping the lymph nodes are clear as the radiographer said only one was looking slightly suspicious. I had a fine needle aspiration of the lymph node, is that normal practice? (Core biopsy of the main lump). Also been referred for genetic testing and a further xray guided biopsy of a second area.
I’m feeling all over the place at the moment, finding not knowing the full extent really hard. How do people cope with the waiting? I desperately want a bilateral mastectomy because of family history, does anyone know what the chances are they’ll agree to that?
Thanks for listening
Hi Rungirlrun
What is happening to you just happened to me ! Everything, had my double mastectomy on Monday and feel brilliant now the wait for surgery is the hardest part 2 months I waited. They tell you that's not long in cancer times but I was a long time for my mental health! Been on a rollercoaster but feel that I'm getting back on track had the second drain out this morning just one left and no pain now . Take care and come back on this site as much as you need, brilliant people on here .
Jayne
Ps . In my experience if you want bilateral they will do it , I think it's called an Angelina Jolie ! CF
Thanks so much for replying Jayne, really glad you’re getting back on track after surgery and pain free. It’s reassuring to hear from people slightly further down the road, even though I wish none of us had to be here. Did you opt for any reconstruction?
Hi Rungirlrun,
I have decided that I'm not going to have any reconstruction , I have been through enough although, the hardest part is the anxiety and not the treatment or investigations . l am just happy with my flat chest . I have joined the flat women's group! Lol .I have a lovely new bra with faux boobs from the hospital I was able to choose my own size and so I have lovely little ones I'm pleased.
