Hi All,
I am new here I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2020 at 33 years old. I was scheduled to have surgery in April and had an anaphylactic shock to the aesthetic drugs and so ended up not having the surgery on that day and had it in May with full DIEP reconstruction. I am now about to undergo radiotherapy to my left side breast and then it has been recommended that I have zoladex injections and then move on to letrazole if I can cope with the side effects of the zoladex. I am just wondering if anyone else is having or has had a similar treatment and how it worked out. i think i am also really stressed about the zoladex given its an injection and having another allergic reaction.
I can't help with your questions and I guess your allergic reaction is going to be quite rare, which is maybe why you haven't had a reply to your post. In the meantime whilst I've replied I've 'bumped' your post back up and there might just be someone around now who has a bit of advice to offer.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Sorry you had a reaction to the anesthetic, Zoladex is a hormone implant which is administered with an injection, it isn't an injection as such. It is a slow-release capsule that stops your ovaries working for 4 weeks, when you then get another implant
Side effects are menopausal. These can be quite intense at first as it is a sudden cutting off of oestrogen but I found that things significantly improved within a few months and symptoms are now manageable.
I also take exemestane rather than letrozole but it is a similar drug. It stops oestrogen being produced in the rest of your body. I have very few side effects with it, though I did have increased joint and muscle pain first thing in the morning or when I sit for too long. That too has got a lot better and activity is the best thing for it.
I had chemo and had my first zoladex injection during that which increased symptoms. I was more worried about hormone treatment than the chemo but it has been fine, and we need to go through the menopause at some point anyway.
Good luck with it all.
Thank you, I think I am just working myself up the Radiotherapy is worrying me as my breast got infected after surgery and it still has a small open wound and have 8 days for it to heal. We are pushing the 3 months post surgery they said that after 3 months radiotherapy would not be a benefit. The the realisation of any injection really scares me now implant or otherwise. It really is probably me being paranoid. Before this I have never really been ill or sick or needed surgery this was my 1st surgery and it feels that everything that can go wrong has.
