Hi there. I'm Lorna. Had operation on monday to remove lymph nodes and cancer in left breast. Looking to see how you keep clean as not allowed to take off dressings.

Thank you xx

  • Most dressings they use nowadays are waterproof. They won't stand up to a soak in the bath but they can usually withstand water running over them as in a shower.  Or you could sit in a shallow bath and wash everywhere you can without getting your dressings wet.

  • Hello. I just had to reply as I'm a Lorna too. I agree with  the dressings are waterproof.  You are supposed to shower with your back to avoid soaking boob. By all means take a bath but don't soak boob. My dressings could come off after 72 hrs but I left them on for a bit longer. I had internal dissolvable stitches, wound was glued then steri strips on top which gradually would get softer after showering. The glue stick was the worst as it was in my armpit. • Welcome and Hello, i had to leave my dressing on till 2 weeks after my op. i didnt get mine wet as they were waterproof, but i waited till the 3rd day after my op until i had a shower, but i did strip wash...If you need anymore questions answered your in the right forum.. Someone will be able to answer you..

  • A very good question. I was told by BC Nurse could only use a shower on my back. If I got dressings wet to use a hairdryer to dry them. To be honest I couldn't be bothered with that faff and arm mobility wasn't up to it anyway. What I decided to do was use a sponge. It is possible to have a shallow bath as Lesley63 says. I would love to get back to doing a good old soak in the bath, but its not advisable. Use warm water not hot. I used a long handled soft bath brush on my back. Have treated my breasts very gingerly and all healed very well.
