Hi I was just wondering whether it’s ok to drive after I have the wire inserted, I have to drive myself to the hospital the day before my operation to have it done, the Breast care nurse in the assessment centre said it was ok, but I just wondered whether anyone had a problem or felt unwell after it.
Thanks in advance
Diane

Hi Di54 welcome to the forum. They should give you some local anaesthetic before they put the wire in and then they can tape it to your breast so that it doesnt catch on anything. It will be ok to drive and shouldn't interfere with anything but you wont be able to drive yourself after the surgery.
Thank you for your reply, you’ve put my mind at ease.
Yes that’s what I thought, surgery is Friday this week and have arranged how to get there and back, but said I didn’t need a lift there Thursday to have the guide wire then had an oh s**t moment thinking what if I can’t drive.
Thank you again
Diane
Hi - I had my wire insertion & radioactive injection done last Thursday and I was fine to drive home. I did wear a sports bra though so I had a firm cup to support my boob. My nurse also recommended I wore the sports bra that night just to help - which I found to be a good tip. They put a decent dressing over the top as added protection. Good luck for your op!
Hi Howdy_Calam, thanks for the advice. How are you feeling after you op?
I’m OK - I had op last Friday and pretty much slept most of the weekend. Felt fab Monday but did slump Tuesday. The heat has affected me this week - I had a mamoplasty so have a drain and pressure socks to deal with… Got appointment tomorrow when they will check wounds and hopefully remove the drain which means I can have a proper shower!!! Compared to when I had my varicose veins stripped, I have had minimal pain and only been taking paracetamol, alongside the antibiotics prescribed. What pain I have experienced has been from the armpit where they removed the lymph nodes.
Good luck for your op and let us know how it goes xx
Hi I am having mammoplasty in 10 days time, and reduction on other breast. How was the swelling and pain, are you able to wear bra's and how have you got on with the drain xx
Hi Shaz52 - not really noticed any swelling to be honest, but I haven’t touched the dressings or padding since they put my bra on when I came back to the ward post-op. Tomorrow will be the first time I will see my new boob. I opted out of having my other boob reduced. In terms of pain, I haven’t had too much - just been taking paracetamol alongside my antibiotics. Not needed anything stronger thankfully.
I have worn the front-fastening bra the clinic gave me 24/7, which is what they told me to do. The drain has been ok - just annoying cos you have this long tube & bag you have to carry with you, and it does get it the way when you go to the loo etc ;-) And when you sit down / go to bed you have to work out where to put the tube and bag so it can’t snag anywhere.
I have had to be careful not to stretch up with my right side (drain is in ny right boob) cos that does ‘pull’. Oh and I needed to add sorne new plasters to hold the tube in place below the bra cos the original dressings lifted and were driving me nuts as they kept itching, so my hubby eased them off and replaced with standard plasters.
Good luck with your op!!!
Had my wire inserted which was fine but the hospital got my time wrong, letter said 10.30am when my appointment was 1.30pm, luckily the radiographer was able to come back by 11 to do it. Whilst there checked my appointment for tomorrow which was suppose to be 11am, turns out it’s 10am, then had phone call from day surgery to say my appointment there is 12, but explained that I can’t wander around the hospital for 2 hrs before coming there so she said they would have to stick me in a room because there won’t be a bed until 12.
Was starting to become anxious yesterday, even more so now.
Oh goodness - what a mess - does make you wonder at times… What about your times to stop eating and drinking?
No need to be anxious - I know that’s easier said than done but you’ll be fine, and before you know it, your op will be over and you can start on your road to recovery :-) I took an ipod to listen to whilst waiting - kept my over-anxious brain slightly calmer…
Good luck!
