I'm ER positive but as yet, HER2 borderline. I'm still waiting to meet to find out my plan. I had an MRI on Wednesday.

If you're hormone positive does that mean you have radiotherapy and not chemo?

My dr did say possible lumpectomy/radiotherapy + herceptin but if the MRI showed more cancer things could change.

  • Hi, I'm ER positive and HER positive, lump was initially 56mm, grade 3. I have had 6 cycles of chemo and Herceptin/Pertuzameb and now I will have surgery then radiotherapy. I think it is all very personalised

  • Thanks for replying. I think you're right. It is very personalised. My lump is 55mm although I'm sure it's growing as it's pulling my nipple in now.

  • Your team will come up with  treatment pan that is completely tailored to you, which is a really positive thing about breast cancer. There is so much research into it, that there isn't a 'one size fits all' even when it seems like you have the same type of cancer as someone else.

I had ER+ and PR+ positive cancer (both very high on the scale) but because it was on my chest wall, they wanted to shrink it first with chemo so I had that first. Then lumpectomy, then radiotherapy and now 5 years of hormone therapy.

One thing you will definitely get in your treatment plan is the hormone therapy if you are hormone positive. Everything else will be tailored and there are choices with hormone therapy too!
