Hello, new to the forum that everyone wishes they didn't have to join. :(

I am 50 years old, first routine mammogram done in June and was diagnosed yesterday with stage 2 breast cancer HER2 negative.  No idea what they were talking about really so I have no idea what that really means.  Booked in for a MRI scan Monday morning and there was talk of lumpectomy and radiotherapy followed by medication for 5 years????

At a total loss with it all.

On top of all this I am a single Mum dealing with my 15 year old, recently diagnosed with anorexia, daughter. Disappointed I told her my diagnosis last night, just hoping and praying it doesn't set her back on her road of recovery.

I'm sure I will have lots of questions, but for now it's just hello and thank you for letting me join this forum. x

  • Hello. I notice no one has replied yet so thought I would. welcome to a place you wouldn't want to be. If you click my name you can read my little story as it saves me typing it again. I'm now 4 weeks post op. Still achy but trying to keep moving and doing my exercises. Got appointment for chat with oncologist. Just taking one day at a time. Make use of asking any questions in the forum and make use of your breast care nurse who will be able to explain. Its is a lot to take in (my advice is to look at Macmillan site but don't Google as its a minefield) and for me things moved very fast. Once they have done scans then you should have a better idea of plan. Keep going we know its hard but there are friendly people here who can help.

  • Hi Fenjay. Please ask, over and over if you have to, there is so much to take in. Sounds like your cancer is hormone positive as there is no mention of chemo but they are talking medication. My caFingers crossed tone3 was hormone positive and I am on Letrozole for 5 years (I’m older at 61 and post menopause). I found that once treatment started I felt much better, more positive and optimistic. Hope your daughter is taking iit ok Fingers crossed tone3
