Hi All,
I’m awaiting surg 14th July then radio and chemo all feels a bit daunting at the moment. Any helpful tips please.
I had TNBC in 2015. Like you I had the lumpectomy, chemo and radio. Sometimes the treatment isn't very pleasant but the days pass and here I am six years on to tell you about it. My advice.....listen to your body....there are no right or wrong responses.....ask questions here if you need advice to deal with any problem, someone will have shared your experiences, and to stay positive set your self small challenges daily. It will help your morale as you achieve them. This may be as small as taking a shower or large as going for a 5 km walk......set targets that fit how you are feeling.
I wish you well. There is an end and you too will find yourself looking back and helping others.
Take care. Love Karen
Good and frequent conversation with your Breast Cancer Nurses. I find a one-to-one really helps with the right one. For instance, I found out quite by chance yesterday that if you have a problem with Radiotherapy they have cooling dressings with pain killer in them which they can apply. I never knew that ! I also had some very reassuring ultrasound done which discovered the inflammation I am currently experiencing, despite doing the required exercises. All this has set my mind at rest and given me the answers I could not otherwise have known. What I am saying really is don't feel you have to be extra brave and struggle alone if you feel something isn't quite right - they can really help and love to do their job. We are all different and our treatments, surgery and recovery experiences are all different. And yes, it is all daunting. I have a bit of a thing about going to appts - I really dread them (I think because it was always bad news told to me at them) but in actual fact I always go and gain a lot from them. I agree about the challenges, I found after surgery every day presented me with a new challenge ! You have to find entirely new ways to do the normal things you did quickly and without a thought and rely on others to help you more.
Next appt 29th July , I’ll ask lots if questions
Hey Betty. I have the same.
I hope your surgery went well? Looking at your post it was 4 days ago?
It mustn't be nice on this heat so I'm thinking of you. X
Treatment is strange and it's surprising how it differs region to region. I'm having 2 different lots of chemo BEFORE surgery? Had the first session 10 days ago.
Hi
from what I understand it’s the size of tumour that governs when chemo is. My surgery went well and I’m to start chemo in a few weeks time. I don’t know what combo as yet .
good luck to you
Hi i just recently recovering from tnbc i had chemo 16 weeks (1 once every 2 weeks) 1st 8 sessions was combi, which took its toll very tired didnt lose my hair with that did put on weight makes u very hungry and cravy for food
My 2nd 8 session i had pactixil that was more aggressive but less symptoms which i could deal with thts when i lost my hair but had more energy than the combi
Just stay positve and have friends and family around u all time tht what got me through and i finished chemo in December had radiotherapy in February and went back to ful time work in march (8 months off work all together)
Positivity and family and friends and big thankyou to my macmillian nurses too they are amazing
