Hello everyone, I’m due to have breast surgery and lymph node removal at the end of July and was wondering if anyone had any advice as to the most comfortable clothes to wear post surgery as I won’t be able to wear anything with sleeves. Grateful for any ideas! Thank you very much.
Hi
Sorry to hear you're in the same boat. You'll get through it OK though
I had lumpectomy and radiotherapy and, I have to say, I got a couple of Crop Tops prior to surgery. These crop tops, from Matalan, were very comfortable and, during/after radiotherapy, I didn't get any soreness under my boob, which I did have years ago when I just wore my normal bra. So, that's one thing I would definitely recommend
Check, when you go for Radiotherapy Planning meeting, what creams or lotions they recommend. There seems to be some inconsistency here whereby some centres say only certain products and another will say 'just your usual creams/lotions' Personally, I was told just usual products, which was Nivea lotion in the main but also E45 cream/lotion and my skin did well ( as expected) ;)
I only wear baggy t-shirts, which were fine, easy to get on/off etc but you'd have to choose something you're comfortable in, including style-wise ;)
Good luck
Hi, I am 3 weeks post Mastectomy. Best advice I was given for if remaining in hospital is button up tops/ PJs. Absolutely great for when people are examining you. Nicola Jane do some cheaper front fastening bra’s and have a sale on. I have found these really comfy. They can be pricey full price but managed to get a really comfy one for £ 18/19. Button up tops/ shirts are great for not having to lift arm to much following surgery. Im not sure what surgery you are having so may not be necessary. I think if having a lumpectomy the exercises can be slightly different but may be wrong their as only have them for post mastectomy. Hope all goes well end of July. X
Thank you so much! I’ve been using Nivea for 100 years and totally swear by it. I’ve found some crop tops (Asda and Sainsbury’s) so think that will work ok - found a great sleeveless top with a bee design! I was worried about leakage from the drain so didn’t want to present badly to the district nurse! Thank you so much for getting in touch Karen xxx
Thank you so much! I’m having what they call ‘half mastectomy’ to remove the tumours. it’s the malignant nodes in my arm that are most worrying, but that’s no matter as they’re going to remove them too. On all you’re all lovely advice I’ve found some tops and bras that would be best. Exercises will follow! How are you getting on with your treatment after 3 weeks post Mastectomy? It’s quite a thing isn’t it? This is my second primary cancer but I’m still in the game!
