Had surgery removed cancer in breast and 17 lymph nodes. Now cancer free, was stage 3

Now just started chemo to prevent HER2 positive returning not sure what to expect?

So far (2weeks in) no sickness, nausea or hair loss but tiredness, couple of enlarged lymph nodes, very low white blood cell count so having to shield and isolate.

Would welcome comments regarding what other women are going through and whether this all sounds ‘normal’ for first treatment. Suppose I wasn’t quite expecting having to shield and isolate so soon.

Hi Lilith welcome to the forum and sorry to hear whats been happening for  you. I dont know that much about Chemo but there is a thread on the Breast Cancer forum dedicated to Chemo if you wanted to post in there and ask your question.

However having low white blood cell count means that you are more susceptible to infection and dont have enough in reserve to fight any infection off if that makes sense? I can imagine that will have come as a bit of a shock but it is protective and common when that happens during Chemo.

Hope the rest of the treatment goes well and sending some hugs your way for now. xx

  • Hi Lilith

Wekcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer. That sounds quite normal for first treatment.

Wishing you the best of luck with the rest of your treatments.

    Best wishes

    Thank you

  • Hi Lilith

it depends on what chemo you are on as to what side effects you have. my first lot of chemo Docetaxel knocked me for six but now I am on a preventative chemo called kadcyla and have just had my 4th round with no side effects.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment.
