Hi everyone
ive just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer discovered through a mammogram
Had a couple of biopsy’s, 2 scans and an MRI
yip can’t get away from the fact that it’s true
I was invited for an appointment to receive the results and was quite upset when the Consultant entered the room and asked “what can I do for you
Didnt fill me with very much confidence as he obviously not read my notes
The Consultant went on to say I needed a full Misectomy which would take place on the 19th July
My question to anyone out there is when do I get the chance to discuss my options
i feel totally confused, scared and anxious
Hi Volley and welcome to the forum. I can imagine that you will be reeling from the shock of all this and things move so fast you often don't get time to think. My Breast Cancer was also picked up on Mammogram and that was 4 years ago now and I'm still here so it is doable but a shock nonetheless.
You maybe need to call the clinic back and explain that you have to talk to someone re the options as you didn't ask at the time and that's ok as a lot of us have done the same. Don't let anyone put you off you need to know the options and they need to meet with you before the 19th of July to let you know what these are for you. Assertive pants on and go gal.
Please do keep in touch as we will be thinking of you and if you have any more questions or things you want to ask please do so here and we will try to help answer .
Sending hugs your way for now. xxx
Hi
That doesn’t sound like a very good consultation - you should have a breast care nurse who can talk through options with you - I am assuming when you say options you mean in regards to whether you can have reconstruction or not ? In the meantime Macmillan have a really helpful site https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/treatments-and-drugs/removing-the-breast-mastectomy which explains a lot of things - but your consultant seems to be missing completely any compassion or empathy …

Hi mine was discovered through a mammogram 2 weeks ago, had another 3D mammogram, scan and a core biopsy and the consultant told me then that she was pretty sure that it was cancer, but she needed to send off the sample. Last week I went back to see the consultant and the Breast nurse was there too, they discussed my options and then the nurse talked to me about it all, she’s also phoned me this week to check on me and will phone again before my operation when I’ll be passed to the care of the hospital breast care nurse.
Didn’t you have a breast care nurse in the room when you were told, have you been given a phone number to ring. I would phone and ask to speak to someone, you need to know what’s going on and what your options are.
take care
Diane
Hi Volley
Welcome to the forum and sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It’s hardly surprising that you are feeling confused, scared and anxious as you obviously weren’t given any information about your treatment other that you were to have a mastectomy. You deserve to know what your options are so do contact the best clinic as others have suggested to find out what those options are.
Wishing you the best of luck with your surgery.
Best wishes
