Hi my routine mammogram ended up by me being recalled and 2 biopsies carried out . I was told yesterday there were 2 areas of cancerous cells, 1 at 6mm and 1 at 4mm. They couldn't tell me if its early stage.
I have been referred to my local hospital to see the breast surgeon.
I am terrified I'm a single mum with 6 year old twins...
Is anyone else in the same situation? X
Hi Merlin1664, I’m so sorry you find yourself in this position. When you first find out you have cancer it can be really scary and feel like a death sentence - but it isn’t. Breast cancer is very treatable these days. 6mm and 4mm is ‘t large so hopefully it is early stages. Not sure what qualifies as early stage but I would think at that size it’s either slow growing which must be good or caught early.
Early stages or not though breast cancer is very treatable. You are at the hardest stage at the moment but when you get given your treatment plan you will feel a lot better.
What helped me when I was where you are is reading other people’s bios on here, just click on people’s names and if they have written one you will see it. You can read mine. There are so many success stories on here that it makes you realise just how treatable breast cancer is.
Keep reaching out and posting on here if you are struggling.
Stop planning your funeral ! You are not checking out any time soon. I was recalled in 2015 and from my first routine mammogram age 51. I had two areas of concern, one 10mm second 5mm. After biopsy 10mm diagnosed as DCIS, smaller area benign. Surgery to removing offending 10mm followed my 15 sessions. Here I am almost 6 years later making my hubby's life hell!
Mot nice hearing you have cancer but you will get through it xx
I know it's scarey. Mine were 3.5mm and 8.5mm and didn't show on a mammogram. It was only because the lymph nodes had begun to show signs that they caught them so early.
I've been alternatively scared, terrified, angry.. in fact all the emotions under the sun. My advice is take each day as it comes and don't do too much reading on the Internet. Once things start happening they start going very quickly. Lean on friends and tell them how you feel.
Good luck and let us know how you get on
Cathy
I had 2 areas and one was 15mm, the other 4mm which they had trouble finding during my operation. They also removed 5 lymph nodes which were clear. This was a year ago and I have been fine since. Stay positive as most are treatable and as Godwilling states, this site is invaluable in trying to be forward looking when you read other people's stories. Don't be scared! Keep talking to others.
Good luck
Thank you for all your messages I had a call today to say I will have a meeting with the breast surgeon and team next week also said I have 2 areas of DCIS both with a bit of invasive cancer. I'm hoping it's going to be treatable, go from feeling terrified to thinking it'll be treatable to being terrified again..... x
Merlin1664. It is treatable. You should be given an outline treatment plan next week. It's not set in stone as it's one step at a time, For such #mall areas you will probably have surgery first. As I had small areas an no marker clips inserted when I had biopsies I had wire guided surgery. So in the morning I had a mammogram and a fine wire inserted on area to be removed, Like my biopsy I had a local anaesthetic before inserted so painless. Then covered with dressing and I had to drive to second hospital for surgery. I was last on list so went to theatre at 3pm and was home eating soup by 8.30pm pain free. This was in July & I had radiotherapy in September.
I had a marker in my biopsy glad I did now!
Is radiotherapy usually a couple of months after surgery?
That's good then though the wire insertion was quick and easy easy. Funny experience though as I lay on a bed face down and my breast hung down through a hole. They then jacked up bed like a mechanic does to car and staff went underneath, placed in mammogram machine and inserted wire. I sing a counting song when stressed, usually in my head but from their funny looks afterwards I think I sung out loud !
Radiotherapy planning starts once healed. I had to have mould made as G cup and they needed then in sane place for each session. In 2015 fifteen sessions the norm but I think it's now 5 intensive ones. My BC nurse told me to moisturiser well once healed so skin in best condition before starting rads - I used bio oil on scar and E45 cream. I added refrigerated aloe Vera gel during rads to cool skin. Held up well apart from underneath breast which is common on larger breasted ladies !
Radiotherapy is literary 10 minutes lying there. If and I say if you need chemo this will be before radiotherapy. I didn't require radiotherapy. Also if hormone related you may have hormone suppressing tablets for 5 years.
