Hi Pud987
A warm welcome to the community, albeit a sad welcome as you'd obviously rather not be here. Great news that it was picked up during a routine mammogram (mine was too - it was my first and I nearly didn't bother going!). It just shows how important these routine mammograms are doesn't it and what life savers they are?
Do you have any more information as to the type and grade? I'm assuming as you say stage 2 that it's been found in one or more of your lymph nodes. With a little more information you'll get ladies who are in/have been in exactly the same position as you and be able to give you an idea of what's to come.
The waiting stage is 100% the worst - once you are 'dealing with it', then it all becomes a little easier to cope with. Not necessarily going through the treatment of course, but the not knowing how you'll cope/what the effects of the treatment will be is just so hard to come to terms with.
I had a lumpectomy for 3 areas nearly 4 years ago (total area of 80mm removed) and my sentinel lymph nodes were removed for testing to see if it had spread into my lymph nodes. A lumpectomy (wide local excision) is a lot easier operation than a mastectomy. I was operated on at 4.30pm and home by 7.30pm. Paracetamol and ibuprofen was all that I needed during recovery.
If you could update your profile with more details (or on this thread), then any replies will be able to be tailored more to your type of cancer and what to expect, which I hope will help reduce your anxiety when you know a bit more of what comes next.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hi. I know how you feel - I had my first mammogram and was then recalled. I went on my own not realising I’d need 2 biopsies and they told me there and then 1 of them looked suspicious and was probably cancer. My advice would be to take 1 day at a time - waiting is the hardest. I went for my lumpectomy on 30 March and was in recovery within 2 hours and back home the same evening. I bought one of those huge v shaped pillows and used it in bed and on the sofa - make sure you do the excercises they recommend. I had no pain it was just a bit sore and uncomfortable- I get my results next Wednesday but already know it’s triple negative and grade 3 so will definitely need chemo I just don’t yet know the stage. There’s loads of lovely people on here who are going through or have been through what we have. Good luck and keep breathing xx
I felt so lucky as I was selected for over 70's random mammogram. Found to have stage 1 and stage 2 tumours but had lumpectomy within a few weeks. The only thing I found concerning was that they kept telling me how lucky I was but nothing else, I didn't know what to expect.
Ask questions, find out everything you need to know and you won't have any surprises. I just expected all to be OK after operation so be prepared. Operation was simple and no real pain so don't worry about it. Just ask about anything else you are worried about as I had little information and thought after the op. I would be fine. You will be as long as you know what to expect.
Good luck with the operation and don't worry about it. KInd thoughts, take care.
