I've just joined the group. I had my cancer(lump)

Removed. Is it normal to get infection inside.

How long does it take roughly to recover?

  • Hi , sorry to hear you have an infection,  I think infections do sometimes happen.  Make sure you let your surgeon know asap if you think you have an infection.  I imagine they'll give you antibiotics which should hopefully sort it all out for you.

As to how long recovery takes I imagine it's different for everyone.  I had my lumpectomy mid January and am mostly recovered now.  The breast that had the lumpectomy still feels like it has some healing to do but I only notice that if I press on it.  The breast that was reduced in size to match feels completely normal.  I have just started sleeping on my tummy occasionally again and that feels fine.

The main thing to do is to keep doing the arm exercises daily.  I noticed doing them more than once every day made a big difference.

Wishing you a speedy recovery x

  • Hi Mint ,

Sorry to hear you might have an infection . If it is warm to touch or throbbing you must speak to your consultant.  A broad spectrum antibiotic will sort it out .

I had lumpectomy last Wednesday and trying to get exercises done to prevent stiffness.  I wonder how long one needs to wait until  arm gets back to normal ? Also is this arm susceptible to lymphodema always ?

Wishing you a quick recovery x

  • I have lymphoedema and it is just a nuisance at the moment but sometimes very painful at night. I was about 9 months post operation when it started but not everyone gets it. Just unlucky I guess! You need to keep up the exercises as I think I stopped them too soon when I thought I was OK.

  • Thank you so much for your reply and advice . I hope you make a speedy recovery . Tc
