Hi, I've been diagnosed with stage 1 grade 3 breast cancer. I want to have a double mastectomy as I don't want the worry in future. Does anyone on here know if I can have the reconstruction straight away on the first breast when removed as I'd need to have counseling before having the other one removed but I feel they won't be in a rush to do the second surgery as is then cosmetic and not serious. I don't want to be left with one breast for to long as worried how that'll affect me mentally. If anyone has any experience in this and can offer advice will be great
Hi I imagine this is something you should ask your surgeon as what options are available to you and when will probably vary from area to area. From what I've read on here most people don't find having only one breast to be as bad as they were expecting and some opt to stay that way. Hopefully if there is a delay for you you won't find it as bad as you think it will be either.
Wishing you all the best on your journey.
Thank you for your response Godwilling, I'll see what the surgeon suggests and what is available to me. Thanks again
