Morning!  I was diagnosed on Friday after a biopsy following a call back after a routine mammogram.  I am doing better than I was for the week while I waited for the results but still slightly reeling from the whole thing.  MRI this week to help decide on full or partial mastectomy.  My inclination is to go with the full either way but not sure if this is just a reaction as opposed to a reasonable decision.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

  • Hello .  Sorry you find yourself here.  I had lumpectomy as that was the most appropriate treatment for me.  I'm sure others will be along soon with more help/advice x

  • Hello, I had the same initial thoughts.. just take the whole breast, but my consultant advised against this as it was not necessary in my case. Apparently the clinical outcome was the same in my case for part or whole removal and your surgeon will advice you I’m sure. The waiting is the hardest part, but I found the BCN to be exceptional and really helped me understand the treatment better. I hope your journey is as smooth as it can be, good luck.

  • Nothing can describe the shock can it? But it does get better as you start to make decisions on your treatment. Like you my first thought was for mastectomy. My surgeon thought otherwise  and In the end I went with his advice and had a wide local excision on 6 April. It’s a really personal decision. You will find what’s best for you. Sending you a big hug xx
